Title: WTB: Data Recorder HVC-008
Post by: Agent13 on June 23, 2018, 02:42:17 am
Hello All,

New member here and glad to be aboard!

I just returned from my honeymoon to Tokyo, and the only things Nintentdo related that I wanted to purchase were a Famicom Keyboard and Data Recorder. Unfortunately I came up very empty handed. I broke down and purchased the keyboard on ebay, but am hoping someone on here may be willing to part with their data recorder from a fair price.

Any help would be appreciated!

Just remember that any tape recorder (or other audio device) with earphone and microphone ports generally works with the keyboard. A common misconception.

Thanks for the tip P! I was wondering about possible alternatives so that is good to know.

My keyboard is on its way, and I can't wait to give Family BASIC a try for the first time. I've been reading through some of the threads and want to thank you for your contributions.

Nintendo's Data Recorder is really just a Nintendo-branded tape recorder, and was released some time after Family BASIC.
I had trouble using my sound card as a data recorder so I simply bought a new tape recorder. But MP3 players and such should work too if they have a line-in port.

You are welcome, be sure to share your creations on the forum if you make something. :)

Does anyone know what the Panasonic branded model number is for the HVC-008?

(UPDATE, it seems the Panasonic RQ-2735 Portable Cassette Tape Recorder Slim Line is a close visual match.)

You're telling me all this time I just needed a tape recorder?! https://youtu.be/8tUTygTgcts?t=155

Good thing we didn't have this. I imagine as a kid I would've written over all our family's cassettes.

Yes a tape recorder with both mic and speaker jacks and the keyboard to connect it to.

There are also a few peripherals like the S.D. Station which supposedly also has the data recording part of the keyboard, although some games like Lode Runner still requires the keyboard as the game refuses to bring up the save/load screens if the Family BASIC keyboard isn't detected.
