I have compiled a list of all the Licensed Famicom Cartridge games which use a form of non-volatile storage to save data once the system is turned off. There are 248 titles, including a few variants, on this list. The ordinary method was to include a RAM chip inside the cartridge and use a coin-cell battery to keep it powered when the system was turned off. A few games use RAM contained in a memory controller chip rather than using a discrete Static RAM chip. Those cartridges still require a battery. Twelve games from Bandai use an EEPROM chip to provide a small amount of save memory and therefore these cartridges do not require batteries.
Nantettatte Baseball contains a slot for an expansion cartridge. Two such expansions were released. The base game and the expansions share the RAM, which is in the base cartridge. If you change from base to expansion, expansion to expansion, or expansion to base, the memory is wiped.
The Datach base unit contains an EEPROM which can be used by any of the cartridges for the system. Only two games, shown in the list below, use it. Battle Rush contains an additional EEPROM in its cartridge.
