Title: Famicom with garbled graphics and no sound
Post by: ecarrilho on September 28, 2020, 06:01:51 pm
Hello!

I have a original Famicom, with no mod that was working before.

Today, after a long time with no use, I faced this issue:

There is no sound and when I tried to start the game, pressing Start on controller, nothing happens.

Below, with F1-Race cartridge:

I cleaned the motherboard and cartridge slot with isopropyl alcohol, but with no success.

Can be a PPU or CPU fault? Or both?  :'(

They are a little hot at touch.

I have a faulty Famicom unit that can be a donor for some parts.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks!!

looks like a video RAM problem.

Like FAMICOM_87 said, it's probably bad VRAM. Try replacing the VRAM chips.
