Title: Bad RF or bad CPU?
Post by: landmasta on January 29, 2025, 02:20:48 am
Hey everyone, broke out the old famicom for the first time in a few months yesterday. I was having problems with the audio. At first it wasn't coming through at all, but after cleaning the contacts and fiddling with it, it managed to come through. Today again I'm getting no sound. I know that sometimes the cpu can corrode and that can take the sound out of games, but if I was able to get sound yesterday is it more likely that I just need a new RF cable?

Well I bought an RCA to coax converter and I'm still having sound issues. Must be a CPU issue then.

I don't think it's as simple that it has to be one or the other. If the CPU was fried it might have more symptoms than just the lack of sound, unless if only the APU portion of it was busted somehow.

Try to tune the ferrite cores on the RF modulator to get the sound . Or just do AV mod . I suggest you not to remove any components or lift the pin 21.
