Title: Warm CPU, no heat else wear, dead cpu?
Post by: inabityo on July 13, 2025, 08:20:23 pm
I have 3 Famicom motherboards, all of which have no output on the AV mod.

When powered in, the CPU shows a temp of around 55c so not too hot, but no heat elsewhere in the board.

Is it simply dead CPU, anything else we can try? We don't have an oscilloscope. But if reset is low, would that prevent boot?

What can I check without an oscilloscope that might help?

Even with a dead CPU, you should get a gray screen.
No signal would indicate dead PPU, no clock, or no voltage in general.

I'd check your AV mod work, weird that all three boards would show nothing.

Thanks for getting back to me, I'll double check. No warmth off the other chips is what's giving me cause for concern. Not sure how to link images, but we've used a thermal camera and we have one fully working to compare against (and check power supply)

I think you have to upload the photo to an image uploading service and then use the "insert an image" tag with the address to the image you got after uploading it.
The forum doesn't have a function to upload an image directly as some other forums may have.
