Title: What do you think of this Famicom?
Post by: Mo on January 12, 2008, 05:15:37 pm
I prefer this 1989 design  to the 1993 version:

Lol is that for real?! :o Also it looks too 'tall', considering the Famicom circuit board has a very low profile (mostly logic chips, no big caps sticking up or something), for me it seems like wasted space, and a flatter design looks sleeker and more modern.

I actually like it, maybe because it looks similar to it's big brother.

That's an awesome find. I love the look, but why does there need to be four buttons on the controller? It reminds me of a famiclone.

So what is the deal with this thing anyway? A prototype? Was this ever made?

The controller is for the Super Famicom pictured on the right I presume? Unless it was meant to be compatible for the Famicom too. I guess Nintendo had intentions of releasing the system but it never happened for some reason.

Reminds me more the SNES than the Famicom. I still think that the AV Famicom is the sexiest version made.

At least until someone makes a woman-shaped Famicom.  ;D

I think this has something to do with playing Famicom games on a Super Famicom, since Nintendo originally planned to implement that.

That looks nice.
I'd buy it if the price is right.

I think what we're seeing here is an early prototype Super Famicom, thus this particular system doesn't exist.

I have been trying to research more into the "never was Famicom" and came across a Jap Connoisseur
collector. This guy said he's got the same picture in a 1988 Jap mag (Famicom Tsushin Magazine).

He said the Famicom was redesigned for AV quality but purely to look like the Super Famicom, it was scheduled for release in mid 1990. The controller was able to work on both systems. I would of blatantly bought one if it ever came out.

Yeah, that's what I figured: it was a proto of the redesigned Famicom. It's pretty neat how similar the Fami and the SFC look, and it's also space saving to have the controllers overlap. Damn, I wish this came to fruition. :(

I still think the box is too tall, considering most of it would be empty vertically.

It does look like the ol' girl needs to lose a few pounds.

I like the idea of the eject button though. The AV doesnt have that.

Cool!

But the joystick ports are not the same as the NES ones!
Which is one of the GREATEST features of the New Famicom!

But hey!
Way cool!!
