Title: Super Famicom copyright error message.
Post by: MaxXimus on January 21, 2008, 01:59:39 pm
For a couple of my games (Super Donkey Kong 3 and a couple others) sometimes I get a message saying that reproducing games is illigal and to check my console manual for more info. Does this mean that the game is a boot, or does the SFC just have a wonky protection?

Maybe the games are pal? idk I'm guessing not but there were some Super NES games that gave me that message at random times. One of them was super mario all stars. It's sort of to remind you not to be bad lol

yeah and you had to turn the game on and off? I think it's an anti-piracy message.

I know its an anti piracy message. I wanna know why it happens. Either the protection is wonky, or the game is a boot, haha. And I had to flip it on and off like 5 times before it worked. As for the Mario allstars game, one power off and on worked.

Dirty/corroded contacts, if possible get the cart open and give them a good cleaning, the same happened to my DKC cart and it was a slightly corroded contact which made some infinitesimal electrical resistance which triggered the game copier detector.

The contacts look fine. Maybe they are just dusty?

Maybe the contacts on the console are getting dirty. Anyway since you're getting this:

and you're not using a game doctor, there's a contact problem which makes the game think there is one between the cart and the cart slot. Give them both a good cleaning, even if they look fine. Happened to me as you see ;).

My screen looks WAY different than that. If I can get it to do that again, I'll try to take a picture of it. It's probably just because it's a different screen for a Super Famicom.
