is the extra controller port on the famicom only for player 2?
because when i plug in a controller it only works on player 2
(http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh174/popibros1/IMG_0027.jpg)this controller port HELP ME!
It depends on how the controller is wired. If it's a player 2 controller, it will only work as player 2. If it's a player 1 controller, it will only work as player 1. If there's a switch, well, it'll work on either depending on what the switch is set to.

Me too, actually. You'd have to rewire the plug in order to get it to work as a player 1 controller (which basically means you'd need a replacement plug since I don't think you can just cut open the plug and change the wire order).
Since they're standard plugs, you may be able to get a male and female plug at radioshack to build your own rewiring. It really wouldn't be that difficult!
Maybe you could build a pin adapter with standard DB-15 plugs to reroute the necessary wire(s), even add a switch for choosing between Player 1 or 2.
Hey we thought the same nearly at the same time! :o
They say great minds think alike you know :P
The expansion port on the Famicom is deeper than your average DB-15 port. The wiring would be correct, but it won't be able to reach the pins :(
satoshi_matrix hacked a PC joystick extension cable, since the plug on it was made entirely of rubber he trimmed it somewhat with a knife and got a perfect fit ;).
Yeah, I guess you can repurpose some cables. Something like this would probably work:
MIDI/JOYSTICK/GAMEPORT EXTENSION CABLE 6FT (http://cgi.ebay.com/MIDI-JOYSTICK-GAMEPORT-EXTENSION-CABLE-6FT-ADEAL_W0QQitemZ160001402332QQihZ006QQcategoryZ1288QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQ_trksidZp1638.m118.l1247QQcmdZViewItem)
but a plug like this would end up being too short:
10 Ft DB15 M-F Extension Cable, Joystick/Midi/Mac (http://cgi.ebay.com/10-Ft-DB15-M-F-Extension-Cable-Joystick-Midi-Mac-STSI_W0QQitemZ140212686543QQihZ004QQcategoryZ41995QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
The first one seems ideal for the job.
Buy a Hudson controller on eBay they have a switch, which works perfectly for going back and forth through player 1 and 2.
It's been suggested that the NWC might play using the ext port. With the NWC, you've got to push Start on the second controller, which the original Famicom doesn't have. So, does anyone know if it would work for that? If you plug the lightgun into the second controller on the NES, it automatically triggers the game to start. I don't have any ext port accessories.
BTW could anyone please give me the pinout from one of these 2-player DB15 controllers? I can't seem to find it anywhere and I need it to build an adapter to test my TwinHead PC100.
Was anyone able to provide the pinout for the 2 player DB15 controller? I'd like to know this to build my Famicom to NES controller port via a Four Score. I couldn't find it online anywhere.
Yes, I've managed to figure it out, even D2 and D3 which are necessary for the light gun ;D.
Here you go:

Perfect! Even better than expected. Somehow I knew you'd have that figured out. ;D
133MHz, was the schematic you posted for the DB15 to NES controller ports for only the Twinhead PC, or should it work on a Famicom, too? I finally got the parts to make mine and soldered it all together to test, but it doesn't work. Thought I'd ask before looking up the Famicom's DB15 pinout and comparing it to the one in your schematic.
The Twinhead PC is 100% Famicom compatible. I've tested my adapter on a real Famicom and it works perfectly.
Are you using a multicart to test the controller?
