Title: WarioLand (Hoshi no Kirby hack)
Post by: planet_haxxor on March 15, 2008, 06:44:03 pm
found a cart today entitled warioland 2, thought it was probably going to end up being just wario's woods but I thought it was worth the gamble. take into account that I had to treck out far to find this game (got some other cool ones too), and it doesn't appear to be a new hack.

downside is that the graphics are corrupted, the wario title screen is visible enough as is the level layout and Wario's sprite, but other things are a bit garbled. hoping that cleaning the contacts will help but I'm not holding my breath.

oh and it's a hack of a kirby game.
Wario's sprite is spot on though.

Yeah, I've heard of it. I hate when they do a basic hack of the main character and slap a new name and label on it. >:(

are you saying the graphics are screwed up on all of these carts?
sounds a bit unlikely.

I can't see your screenshots ??? But the games i've seen were all garbled...maybe they released another version without any garbled graphics? And planet_haxxor it really could be likely. Pirates are pirates. Sometimes just random stuff is thrown on a cart. Dream Mary for example has this garbled bar on the right side that changes with the background as you progress, and it was meant to be that way. Maybe it was also meant to be that way with the Wario/kirby game ???

Just blocks with a red X in it. Like a corrupted screenshot. But it's in all of them.

Yep now I see them! :) Yeah this version doesn't have the garbled graphics I saw on the other two...I wonder if both games I saw were just glitched in the same way, or if there really is a corrected version ???

Maybe the cart you saw had a shorted CHR ROM address line or two

Yeah maybe but I saw two of them and both were the same isn't it a bit unlikely both had the exact same problem? :P

Id give alot for a cart like that.

One thing though, it looks like Warios grapiches are larger than the original, and shouldent be possible, unless they actually took the time to ASM hack the game and enlarge the original player size...

/\  The attacks appear to be coming from the original Kirby height.  Would be interesting to know if the top area of Wario takes damage...there are some areas with spike floors and ceilings that something much bigger than Kirby would not be able to get through without damage I don't think.

The top area doesn't take damage. I let one of those flying creatures fly right through Wario's head. I think Wario ate Kirby, because the sucking power is coming from Wario's belly.

i have found with some pirates just putting the cart in, powering on and immediately hitting reset works.

Not all cartridge have garbeled graphics anyway...
Put cartridge, power on and off, remove it, turn on famicom, put it back while famicom is on, power on and off.
