Title: Yume Kojo: Doki Doki Panic
Post by: Porkypine on March 30, 2008, 02:38:20 pm

http://cgi.ebay.com/DOKI-DOKI-PANIC-mario-2-FAMICOM-DISK-SYSTEM-SEALED-NEW_W0QQitemZ330224078161QQihZ014QQcategoryZ62053QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

It not a variant per se, but there is a noticeable difference from the photos I have seen. There is a white bar across the "BOM".

So does anyone know the story with that bar perhaps why it is there, what it says, or how rare it is compared to the one without that inscription.

I'd love to get this game new, but I've heard shady stories about the seller that make me hesitant, but I'm asking because I'm curious since I've never seen that on Doki Doki Panic's cover, and I am wondering if it is legit.

Please forgive any ignorance on my part, and thanks for any help.

I have a mint copy and the cover that you refer to with the bar over the bom is just a flat card cover.  The instructions don't have the bar so i'm assuming you have seen copy's without the card.  Below is mine:

I did know it had that card, so thanks a lot for clearing it up, old sport, I really appreciate the response.

Varient collecting would be so hard with famicom games because there are certainty so many pirate variants that you have to decide if they're true varients or not. Then if you want to weed them out, it's not always easy to do so...

I am interested in finding the game "Doki Doki Panic" which, most of you probably know, is the original version of the game Americans know as Super Mario Bros. 2.  It is my understanding that this game was only released in Japan.  If I buy a Famicom and I happen to find that game, will it be compatible with ANY Famicom, or do I need to make sure I buy a certain type of Famicom?  I've heard that certain games released in other countries won't work on some systems.  Also, where are some good places to buy a Famicom for a decent price?

Thanks,

Justin

It plays in any Famicom if you have a working Disk-System attached to it, because Dokidoki Panic is a disk game. ;)

Or you could get a pirate Doki Doki Panic cart like I have.  ;D

Much harder to find, and more expensive...

The Disk version is the real deal, and I would recommend a Sharp Twin AN505 if you can get one (plays Famicom and FDS games very well...also has turbo controllers).

Well, the only cart I saw sell was JCs, and that sold for a lot on eBay.  I was able to get a sealed FDS DDP for very cheap, and they seem to always be available.  So, under the same circumstances (put both on eBay) I would expect a cart to sell for several times what a disk for go for (especially if it's a loose disk, which doesn't seem to be worth much at all).

If you buy it from a foreign country (which you did), it's cheaper because it's common.  If you get one in the U.S, it's going to get at least $60.

Not sure what you're saying here. It's possible to buy lots of things in America online from foreign countries. You can get Doki Doki Panic here (https://www.risingstuff.com/store/products.php/Famicom-Disk-System-Yume-Koujou-Doki-Doki-Panic-game-only/cPath,10) for around $10+shipping.

He's referring to a cartridge version.

*smacks forehead* I knew I lost the thread of this conversation somewhere. Since it kept going back and forth between the pirate cart and the FDS version, I got confused as to which one was being discussed. Sorry. XD

Well of course, I'm just saying it isn't always more expensive.

A sealed one isn't all that valuable.  They seem to only get the same you'd pay for a complete one (not always of course).  I've seen opened ones sell for more than I got my sealed one for (and also opened).
