After many delays getting the hardware and software together, I finally finished the first part of my first review! Please note that I'm running an actual copy of Famicom Wars on my actual Famicom. This isn't a rom!
I finished my Famicom Wars review (Part 1!!)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9JMea04E4I
Please let me know what you think! If you like it, please comment, rate it, and subscribe! I hope to be reviewing a lot of games in the future, espically Famicom titles. After I finish up with Part 2, I'll start work on Balloon Fight.
Thanks and give me feedback Famicom World!
That really looks great. I think that reviews like that of the really great famicom games that are in english or translated to english help bring more to the scene. Thanks!
That's my hope.
Hey not bad at all. Keep up the good work
Famicom Wars Part 2 now available! Please watch it and let me know what you think!

Sorry Devil World's been taking so long. I've been really busy lately.
Actually, making reviews of the quality I want is quite a lot of work. Things are done in a lot of steps, which mostly are:
1. Decide what game I should review next
2. Write a review of it. The written review consists of an introduction, the premise, graphics, sound, gameplay, fun factor, frustration,
history, and and overall comments.
3. Start recording vocalized versions of the written, then editing both the written to sound better when spoken.
4. Edit down the clips removing inperfections.
5. Record some gameplay footage.
6. Devide up the footage to match the audio and make any nessesary editing desisions.
7. Save it, view it, edit it again if nessesary
8. Compress it so it will fit on youtube
9. ?????
10. Profit (I wish!)
So yeah, a long process. With this in mind, I come to you guys with a question and a request: Would anyone like to volunteer to be a initial draft writer for some of my reviews? I'm looking for someone to help me write a review for upcomming Kid Icarus and Castlevania. Your work will be most likely edited and molded by me but I'll try to keep large sections of it unchanged. You will also receive credit for your work.
Please keep in mind reviews should be fair and be as imparticial as possibe. Nobody wants to hear a fanboy ranting about something only he likes.
Heeeey!!
I pretty much enjoyed your Balloon Fight review!
About your frustration, yeah, it has no ending, even after 999.990 points.
2-player mode is a blast!
Just finished my Devil World review

Nice nice. :)
Keep it up.

Sorry for so many threads on basicly the same topic, but I wanted to make a single location for you guys to voice your thoughts on my video review series.
For those who don't know, I've put together a few Famicom game reviews on my youtube channel. the url is http://www.youtube.com/user/SatoshiMatrix1.
This thread is open to anyone who would like to do any of the following:
1. Make a suggestion for a Famicom or NES game to review.
I'm not a AVGN clone, and while I will occationally review a poor quality game, the primary focus of my review series to to expose retro and younger games to some gems they may not have played before. Another factor to take into consideration is the length of the game. RPGs and text adventure are generally out due to the amount of time it would take me to go through the entire game to be able to fully comment on its worth. That said, I do plan to eventually review Mother. If after taking this into consideration you still have a suggestion, please provide some information as to why its worthy of reviewing.
2. Comment on existing reviews
I love to hear what you guys think! I hope my reviews provoke discussion above all else. No matter if you agree or disagree with what I say, I want to hear your thoughts.
3. Suggestions for improvement
I'm always looking to make my next review better than the one before it, and to do that I need to be aware of what I need to work on. Some things I can't change right away; I'm currently saving up to buy a better recording mic and I'm restricted to youtube's 100 MB and 10 minutes guidelines, but beyond these, I'm open to suggestions.
Topics merged.
New review up.
This time it's F-Zero for the Super Famicom and SNES.

Please rate and leave comments on my videos people! I want to know what the Famicom World community thinks of my reviews.
I'm going to return to video reviews soon as I've got my new computer ordered. In the meantime, thought I might as well revive this thread to promote my written reviews that you guys have or may not have seen. Hurray for search function. Here's what I've done so far.

Better than you'd think!
Shantae! Thank you. That's what it was.
I remember seeing this in a preview section of a magazine a long time ago (prob Tip & Tricks :-\) & being intrigued by this little Genie-looking girl.
Then I saw these pop up on the webernet:
Shantae's got the moves! :D
I'm adding this game to my list.
Hey great. Did you read my review? Shantae is one of my favorite games of all time. What do you mean by "added to your list"?
I have a list of games I'm meaning to buy.
In that list is also Metroid Fusion.
These aren't games I'm willing to get right now but sometime in the future.
good luck finding Shantae. It literally goes for hundreds now.
O RLY?
$139.00 on amazon used?! (http://www.websitegoodies.com/smilies/confused0059.gif)
It's a good thing I don't plan on keeping most handheld games. :-\
Did you read my review? In it I outline the system availability and price for every game I review. I said it goes for crazy prices today. I was lucky and got in when it was new in 2002. Back then $40 for a GBC game was a hard pill to swallow, but I'm glad I did when I did - Shantae is like the Earthbound of the GBC. Equally awesome, a cult hit, and crazy expensive today.
Of course not. I have a bad habit of not reading reviews of games I haven't played. :P
Edit: To think, I could've bought this game when it was new - but then again, I didn't have a GBC back then & I didn't know the game was going to be that good & expensive.
Double Edit: Now she's teasing me: (http://i498.photobucket.com/albums/rr343/JediQuestMaster/shantae.gif)

remember guys, comments, suggestions for future reviews you'd like to see etc appreciated!
While the remix song isn't my favorite track in the game, it is one of the more nicer tunes I found myself overlooking (probably because Cossack 1-1 was so good!).
And I really like the intro story to this game, as well as 5!
Again, not a game, but a hardware review.
For anyone interested in the Retron 3, three in one clone system, here's my in-depth review of the Retron 3 v1:
http://satoshimatrix.wordpress.com/2010/11/28/hyperkin-retron-3-review/
Read it, loved it, but won't buy this clone. Good work once more my friend.
Huh? I was getting an error page whenever I clicked on the link. :(
:) Nice to see more solid reviews that aren't just "This is crap" or "I'd rather have a mountain lion dump its ass all over my face." (http://www.famicomworld.com/forum/Themes/famicomworld/images/post/thumbup.gif)
I honestly don't see how these 'clones are driving prices down on any official NES. :-\
I have yet to hear about one that accurately plays right.
Sorry abotu the bad link before! I need to recheck my links before I post em.
The Retron 3
As a NES replacement? Poor.
As a Genesis replacement? So-so.
As an SNES replacement? Excellent.
Put the three together and you get a system that's Great if you love the SNES and have an itch to play some Genesis every now and then. The NES is pure crap, which is too bad, but it's still a great product.
That looks like a nice machine.
I'm almost tempted to get one, but the NOAC problem is a big hindrance...
Been reading through some of your reviews and I really like them so keep em coming!
This could come in handy when moving around.
Almost makes the NES support a bonus.
Yes, NES support seems like its an afterthought.
For anyone who wants to check out my library of reviews, read page 2 of this thread for a master list with links.
I've received more than a few requests for this one, so here it is, my full in depth review of the 2004 masterpiece.

Really awesome game in my opinion and I see you feel the same. I have this one on the list of games I want to play through but when you play through RPGs, there is bound to take some time to get to it especially when I'm in the middle of Persona 4.
Another of my favorite games of all time, here's Kirby's Adventure! Thanks guys!
http://satoshimatrix.wordpress.com/2010/12/04/kirbys-adventure-review-nes/
Nice review.
Reminded me that I have Epic Yarn on the shelf, but didn't touch it for several weeks. ... I really wish I had more free time, then I'd play Kirby's Adventure, too.
Kirby's Adventure is the only Kirby game I've ever really played. :(
I remember seeing Kirby's Dreamland commercial on TV:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gU6cHCkWqy8
I love both of those Kirby games, I need to get Kirby in Dreamland eventually...
Another day, another review...
Battle Kid: Fortress of Peril NES. Enjoy!
http://satoshimatrix.wordpress.com/2010/12/06/battle-kid-fortress-of-paril-review-nes/
Wow - again with the homebrew. You are raveling in RetroZone!
Oh yeah, &...
Battle Kid may have been a platformer released on cartridge - but Neotoxin wins in my book as the homebrew that vamped homebrews. ;)
Man, I never did finish Battle Kid. I got to the stages with the stupid frogs and game's frustration finally got the best of me.
I want someone to make a homebrew Click N Play Adventure game for NES. I have wanted a new one for years, to bad I don't know the first thing about game programming...
I played Battle Kid when Justin(Penguin from NA) came to visit....what a hard game!! But all it takes is practice!

The programming is probably the easiest part of making a point-and-click adventure. Coming up with a good story, good dialogue, and good puzzles is the hard part.
The review train continues!
Here's my review of Famicom Detecvtive Club Part 2: The Girl in Back (Fan translation of the Super Famicom remake of the FDS original)
http://satoshimatrix.wordpress.com/2010/12/07/famicom-detective-club-part-2-the-girl-in-back-review-super-famicom/

So, guess who just learned that you did videos and reviews?
YEARS after you started doing them?
...
Yeah. I'm gonna have to do something with that knowledge...
Hey Sean, nice to hear from you. What did you have in mind?
Nice review for Famicom Detective Club Part 2 - looks like a very interesting game, and I like the artwork! I might check it out soon, especially since you mentioned it works on the SNES PowerPak!
Can I help later?
After a bit of a wait, here's my next review, Air Fortress again for the NES.
Enjoy!
http://satoshimatrix.wordpress.com/
Cool review, although the "audio" section seems to need some editing :-X
Air Fortress is a gem of a game. One of those cases where I paid like $2 for a random NES game that I didn't own yet and it ended up being pretty great. The way the game goes dark and the music cuts out after you destroy the cores is great. Very few NES games were able to convey a sense of atmosphere like that.
Ah for some reason I uploaded my draft rather than the final revision. Should be correct now.
Ho ho ho Famicom World boys and girls.
Time for another review, this time for Retrozone's RetroPort controller adapters for using NES/SNES controllers on your Wii. Are they worth picking up? you bet they are!

Time for another review. Here's my look at Fatal Frame for the Xbox and PlayStation 2. Enjoy!
http://satoshimatrix.wordpress.com/2011/01/13/fatal-frame-1-review-xboxps2-2/
Nice Fatal Frame review.
I really enjoyed it, and it creeped me out too!
One of my complaints about this series, particularly the third game and the new one, unreleased in the US, is how perhaps unrealistically attractive the characters are. Yes, they're hot, and I like to look at them, but for me, it's a little harder to take the game seriously. I'm thinking the hotness of the protagonist is a selling point, the same way they're handling Aya Brea for The 3rd Birthday on PSP.
That said, I really like these games, and I need to make it an imperative to actually finish Fatal Frame 3. I keep getting distracted from it for some reason or another.
Another game that has a similar feel as Fatal Frame is the game Kuon. It sounds like a cheap, shameful Juon ripoff, and it almost is... But it's mulberry-related plot creeped me the heck out! It's rather mediocre in play, but if I remember right, it projected the same kind of almost dream-like repetetive gameplay of Fatal Frame, that succeeds when combined with a creepy unpredictable atmosphere.
I know what you mean, but this is japan we're talking about and even with the first Fatal Frame, a selling point is undoutably the fact that you play as a Japanese schoolgirl in her school uniform. If I remember correctly, in the Xbox version of Fatal Frame 2, you can unlock Bikinis for the two sisters to wear throughout what is otherwise a wholly gruesome game.
I was all morning catching up with your reviews sir. Great work!
Here's another review of my of my favorites from the Sega CD, here's Time Gal!
Hope I'm not writing these too quickly for you guys! ;D
Enjoy!

Great Gradius review ! Keep up the good work !
Hey guys, this review is for the indie Mac/Pc game VVVVVV.
I meant to review this last year but never quite got around to finishing. Oh well, better late than never. Enjoy!
http://satoshimatrix.wordpress.com/2011/01/18/vvvvvv-review-macpc/
Ah, yes, VVVVVV. Loved every minute of it. I really didn't mind the escort mission. It was probably the most frustrating part (either that or some of the screens toward the end of the game) but I never found it to cross the fun/annoying line. You can escort other crew members, too, I think it's just a matter of which order you save them in. If you unlock the other play modes you can replay just the escort part with the different crew members (the dialog from the yellow scientist guy is pretty funny).
Alrighty, time for another review. Thought I'd talk this time about the first of the Gameboy Megaman games, Dr. Wily's Revenge. Completely the opposite of the NES Megaman 1, I distinctively remember thinking Megaman was cool based on the boxart for this Megaman 1.
Enjoy!

I've always liked that artwork. :)
Too bad Mega Man Anniversary for GBA never came out. :( I would've so bought that! (I actually tried to before I found out it was canceled! :o)

That was a said day. I would have loved the Game Boy Color compilation as well :'(
Oh man! I love the Game Boy Megaman games. They had some kind of charm to them differentiating them from the NES games.
Along with the canceled Resident Evil GBC demake, Megaman Mania/Anniversary Collection was by far my biggest disappointment when I heard it was canceled. I SO would have bought that game. Twice in fact, to get the Japanese Rockman Worlds.
Oh well. Maybe Capcom will decide to update them for the 3DS, though that's a pipedream.
As far as my reviews go, what would you guys like to see next? I'm tossing ideas in my head but the ones I've done the groundwork screenshot work for are:
Golgo 13 Top Secret Episode (NES)
The Legend of Zelda Link's Awakening DX (GBC)
Arcana Heart (PS2)
Astroboy Omega Factor (GBA)
Zero Wing (Megadrive)
What of those do you guys most want to see first?
Well actually I decided to with an oldie but a goodie, here's F-Zero for the SNES, a launch title that I might have liked even more than Super Mario World back in the day. This is pretty much just a text version of my video review, but still, enjoy!

Time for another review. Now that Arcana Heart 3 is out in Japan, I wanted to talk about the first Arcana Heart, a moe fetish fighting game for the PS2.
For anyone worried I'm speed reviewing, I had already mostly done written this. All I did was added a few finishing touches, and to be fair my last F-Zero review was copy pasta from my vault of past reviews.
Anyway, enjoy Arcana Heart!

Review time! This time I wanted to cover one my favorite Sega Megadrive imports, Zero Wing! Yes, that Zero Wing. Enjoy!

Nice Review!
Cats notoriety exceeds that of Earth's most infamous villains and greatest warriors. He's a super galactic cybernetic badass.

It's been a while since I put up a review, so here's one I've been working on for the last month or so.
Warlocked for the Gameboy Color, a RTS that defies what should be possible for such limited hardware. Enjoy!

Also, I'm on twitter now. You can follow me at twitter/bradykachan. Thanks!
Here's a quick look at the Generation NEX Famiclone from 2005, as well as all three controllers Messiah made including the wired, wireless, and arcade stick. This is what happens if I make a video without a script. Enjoy and feel free to leave questions and comments.

Finally a new review! While I was on the hunt for Ninja Gaiden 3 cart, I came across a ninja game for the 360 that looked intriguing, so I decided to pick it up. Having just finished it, let me share with you guys this underrated modern classic.
Here's Tenchu Z for the Xbox 360. Proof ninja games are still awesome.
http://satoshimatrix.wordpress.com/ (http://satoshimatrix.wordpress.com/)
I didn't realize there were so many Tenchu games.
I only knew of the first 3. Show's how much I've been keeping up. :P
From what I gather Tenchu Z isn't part of the main series, but is instead a stand alone spin off.
Anyway, here's another one for you guys.
Here's something I've been putting off doing for a while now. Here's my Retro Duo Video review! Come explore the ins and outs of this fine Famiclone/SNES.

Nice review! That gamepad setup looks more comfortable than the dogbone setup.
You should do a Butthead impression. :P
here's a follow up video showing off even more games that I either forgot to show, or was asked to show with a surprise at the end.

Hey guys, been a while since I posted a review so I tried to pick something awesome as an apology for the wait. Returning to an oldschool style of gameplay in Ikari Warriors, this is now one of my favorite DS games.
Little Red Ridinghood's Zombie BBQ Review (DS)

Review time. Here's a look at the newly released Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection for PSP. Is it worth a look? You bet it is!

Hey guys, its been a good while since I last put up a review, so I thought I should try for something a little controversial this time.
The game I choose for review was Dark Void, a game my gaming peers seems to have hated, but I enjoyed quite a bit. Agree? Disagree? Fall somewhere in between? Let me hear about it.
Anyway guys, enjoy!

Been a while since I put up a game review, so I hope you guys will like this one. Here's Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon for the PS3 and Xbox 360. I was eagerly awaiting this one and now that it's here, I had a lot to say about it. Hope you enjoy!

You best video yet. Keep out the good work, Satoshi!
P.S: What does that mean?
...What does what mean?
Thank you klax. From your writing I guess English isn't your first language. Can you explain what you are asking? I'd be glad to answer but I do not understand.
SATOSHI! What does SATOSHI mean?
Satoshi is a Japanese name, just like Tanaka, Yuko, Shinji, Sakura, etc. The reaosn I use the name is because my username goes wayyy back to the late 90s. Satoshi comes largely from Satoshi Tajiri, the original creator of Pokémon Red and Green. Matrix comes from Enzo Matrix of the Canadian CGI shwo Reboot. That show was awesome and adult Enzo, who simply called himself "Matrix" was a big inspiration to the name. Also didn't hurt that the 1999 film The Matrix was so damn good.
