Title: Post your most interesting pirate cart
Post by: MaxXimus on May 30, 2008, 10:46:09 am
What would you considder to be your most interesting pirate cart, and why? If at all possible, include a picture of the cart.

II would say my Rockman 6in1 is my most interesting cart for the reason that it has a label I haven't seen on any other Rockman 6in1 and also when loading Rockman 4, it displays a picture of the level select screen in what seems to be an inerted pallette before loading the game. Rockman 4 also seems to have infinite lives...

I will post a picture of the cart later today. I can't right now because of crappy permissions on my school's computers.

This one is real interesting because it comes with Summer Carnival 92. The game kicks ass!

This is my favorite: HERE (http://www.famicomworld.com/Pirated/Hi-Game_3_in_1_Earthworm_Jim_Three.htm). I haven't found a more enjoyable pirate original than Earthworm Jim 3.

Kerokerope.

Is it changed, like with a green pikachu or something?
Or is it just the name changed?

probably Aladdin and Super Aladdin  - I don't know why, it's just addictive.

Recca (Summer Carnival '92) is also amazing. anyone want one of my spare carts? ain't cheap though.

I might be interested in one of your spare carts. What games are on them, and what price are you asking for?

Hi, and welcome to the forums ;D!
I think it's a good idea that you tell us a little about yourself on the Introduce Yourself (http://www.famicomworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=192.0) thread, so we can get to know more about you, and you can get to know more about us ;).

It was a game used in competition during Summer Carnival '92. The game saw a limited release, I think only at the carnival. The game plays like you standard shooter, but it's chaos in 8-bit. HERE (http://www.famicomworld.com/Shrines/Holy_Grails_Recca_Summer_Carnival_92.htm)

1st post here...

I just recently finally got a Famicom along with 4 games from an online store and I'm in love with the system. Admittedly, I'm a classic gamer but never ever got into the NES. I post this aside to get to the point of the thread - during my random collecting of other systems I had come across a power joy pirate controller system... which has that Power Joy 008 cart on it! So having just read the article on it, I imagine I should now try out Pandamar!

PJ008 is a nice cart. I'd like to get one some day. :P Pandamar is a great game as far as graphics hacks go.

I recently came across a hack of Pandamar called Pika. It's OK. Someday I'll get around to posting screens of it.

I don't have many pirate carts, so here are photos of my complete pirate collection. I don't have a lot of pirates but I do have some great games though. :)

That Star Wars labeled cart is my favorite multi.

Yeah it is a rather good multi, but I prefer the golden game 260 in 1. Its game menu is fantastic, features some kind of built in game genie for some games, and it features lots of various games you rarely see in a pirate, including one porno game :P

I am jealous of that Bio Miracle cart (Mario Baby)

Also, those are some nice Mario 3 pirates.

Well,in the pictures there is really only one Super Mario Bros. 3 pirate (the yellow cartridge). The other one contains Super Mario Bros. 2 JPN. Originally it was in a black casing with ''LOST LEVELS'' written on it, but since it was all broken up and ugly I decided to take a Mario Bros. 3 casing to hold the Super Mario Bros. 2 JPN game. By the way I also forgot to take a picture of another Super Mario Bros. 3 pirate which is exactly the same as the white one pictured and it's boxed.

Well I'd have to say "the most interesting" of my (3) pirate/bootleg carts is...

For a pirate cart and as a VS. Fighting game at that, it actually controls "okay" and I
can actually manage to pull of more than a few super moves (mostly with Jubei), but
at the end of the day... it's a pirate bootleg with more than it's fair share of problems.

The selectable characters are:
(listed from left to right as on select screen)

Haomaru, Charolette, Hattori  Hanzo, Ukyo, Nakoruru, Nicotine
Yagyu  Jubei, Cham Cham, Amakusa (then repeated twice)

Again, for VS. Fighting I'd have to say this is hella tight on the Famicom (especially for a boot)
but it's still got *issues*  :D  Beyond this I don't have much to contribute in this thread, other
than that this one can be had through Hong Kong distributors from time to time, but then I
imagine that's where they all come from.  The one I'm looking for is that CONTRA 7 game
that uses Mighty Final Fight stages, something about that peaked my interest awhile back.
Below is a picture of the only (3) boots I do have, but of course I'm always looking for more.

Hey, it's nice to see boxed famipira. ;D Boxes don't show up often. I know nothing about Samurai Showdown II, other than that it's one in a series, though Rex did the other two. I wasn't aware that JY Company did this one, but there it is on the label. It's very likely just a hack of one of JY Company's other fighters. (I've also been looking for an original of SFII, which it appears you have. I've got the Yoko original Master Fighter II, but have yet to find SFII, except on bootlegs of the original bootleg.)

EDIT: Guess it might be "Shodown." :P

I might still have the box for Street Fighter 2 actually, (though my daughter may have lost it) if I do have it and you want it, I'll just mail it to you once I have an addy.  I'm not really partial to boxes in my Famicom collection, I actually prefer the "loose" carts, mainly because of their size and shape.  With NES stuff, I try to have CIB games, but that's getting harder and harder to do.  I also have a yellow box for that Super Mario World that I didn't picture it with for much the same reason.  I just don't care for the boxes.  If that interests you as well, I make the offer to mail that box to you as well.  That one I actually know where it is.  As for JY I didn't realize that was a pirate company, learn something everyday.  I just figured it was some odd nomenclature on the cart trying to make it look like an official release or something.

Sweet bootlegs! How is the Samurai 2 game ?

Truthfully, THIS IS THE GAME I'd tell anyone who's into Famicom bootleg/pirate collecting to track down if you want an almost flawless VS. Fighting Game in terms of control execution.  I guess this JY company really did their homework for the game because it's not like the horrid controls Yoko Soft did with "Street Fighter II / Master Fighter" and is worlds better than that K.O.F. 98 boot for the Mega Drive I once owned, where pulling off moves was almost non existant.

Samurai Spirits 2 (title screen says this though the box says Shodown 2) is actually mapped out from it's Super Famicom port (I'm guessing) because all of the controller motions you'd do to execute a move WORKS.  The game itself is sluggish, and you can do cheap TEKKEN like attacks where a super move throws someone into the air, and you can keep hitting them on their way down... but outside of this, the game is about as close to perfect as one is going to get for a VS. FIghting game on the 8-BIT FAMICOM.  The Back of the box however, shows the actual Neo:Geo MVS screens!  :D  It's a bloody shame this wasn't a legit release with a few more tweaks to it because I think it have sold like hot cakes.  I procure most of this (bootleg) stuff from a guy I know in Hong Kong who also posts over at Neo-Geo.Com/Forums (http://www.neo-geo.com/forums), username ckchan.  Great guy he is.  Anyhow, here are some screen pics for you to see for yourself...

As you can see, the graphics are pretty good considering it's an 8-BIT version of what I'm (again) assuming to be a ported "port" of the Super Famicom version of Samurai Spirits.  It flickers every now and then during a match, and for some odd reason Amakusa is named Mizuki ???  I dunno, maybe it's not supposed to be Amakusa afterall... but the on screen character select screen shows what appear to be the first South Town boss of "Art of Fighting" Todo. Go figure, but then all of these pirate/boots do weird stuff like this.  In that K.O.F. 98' for Mega Drive I mentioned, Terry Bogard got renamed Treey!  :D  Anyhow, hope the pics and description helps you all out, it's one I'd recommend tracking down.   My only gripe is that Genjuro is missing in this game!  He's the reason #2 kicked ass IMO.

Yeah sounds like it.  I just saw youtube footage of Contra Spirits (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsRpeMnnhQU&feature=related) for the Famicom (pirate game of course) and have to admit, I'd like to track this game down something fierce.  It's not without it's problems from what I can tell, and the EMU the guy is playing sounds to have some sound issues, but it's surprising what was able to be pulled off on the 8-BIT Famicom for the unofficial port.  The part with the WW1 Bi Plane dropping a bomb instead of the alien starship in level one had me rolling though.

It's intriguing, but the hack is terrible. Mario is often smooshed. Nice cart to own, though, especially for Mario hack collectors.
