Title: Custom firmware on PSP2000?
Post by: manuel on July 08, 2008, 05:16:04 am
Does anybody know a good site with an EASY to understand description of how to put custom firmware on a PSP2000?
I don't have one yet, but I'd like to know if it's easy and worth the risk of voiding the warranty.

I've looked on google, but didn't find anything satisfactory.  :-\

There was discussion of this in another thread. I'm sure keiffer01 could explain it to you in depth.

Once you get a PSP, I'm pretty sure it has to have a firmware version of 1.50. If not, then you have to get a Pandora battery in order to downgrade. I think PSPs are no longer sold with firmware version of 1.50, although there are many on eBay. Once you get accustomed to the PSP's directories, the installation of custom firmwares become pretty self-explainatory.

Cool. As soon as I get a PSP I might come back to you and ask for help. Thanks. :)

If I install a custom firmware, will I still be able to play all games from disk normally?
I ask because I read once about games not booting any more...
Another thing I read is that several games bring firmware updates on the disk. Will those updates override the custom firmware and install the official one?
Will I be able to install newer versions of the custom fw without a "pandora" battery then?

Sorry for the mass of questions, but I want to be sure...

I'm pretty sure the custom firmware has everything the official firmware has, just with many more features (emulation). I think you actually need the official fw WITH the custom in order to install it. With that said, you can still play UMDs with a custom fw. Please someone reaffirm this as I am not someone who has had much experience with this.
