Title: Cartridge Question!
Post by: PatMan33 on July 09, 2008, 07:42:25 pm
Hey, I just have a general question about Super Nintendo cartridges.

First off I should say I'm using the American version of the system, the lovely grey box. I was looking at my copy of Super Mario RPG and noticed that it had a silver contact coming down along the side of the plastic casing and was totally separate from the board. I've been cleaning the contacts on all of my games as I play them over the last few weeks and this one was next on my list. When I popped it open I checked the board's number and it was marked SHVC-1L3B-10. The silver contact was attached to one side of the cartridge casing and connected to the board via a small square contact.

Anyway, all of that aside, what does this silver contact do? I'm almost certain that I have seen it on other games as well but never really thought to ask about it. Thanks if you can help!
