I quite like my new connection here. :) Back in Germany I had 384kb/s down and 70 up.
Now with over 40Mb/s downloads are way faster. A new episode of Bleach or the Simpsons in under 2 minutes is very cool. ;D

That's the consumer DSL I've got at home. I ran a speed test at work a few months ago and got 31240 kbps down / 14623 kbps up (I'll try it again with this test on Monday).. But, yeah, Japan's network infrastructure is way ahead of America's.

Okay, let the laugh fest begin. :-[ I can't wait until I move so I can get a MUCH faster connection. Dialup is the only thing I can get at my current location. One thing I don't understand though. I live right outside of D.C., but it says Distance ~ 1100 mi. Why is that? I don't understand.
manuel, I hope you appreciate your internet speed. If one day you ever think your connection is not up to par, think of me... :'(
Why is your connection so strangely asymmetrical? Doesn't make sense to have more upload than download.
Kewl I tried it check out mine.

It's almost symmetrical, which is normal in Japan.
This test isn't 100% accurate. You always have some aberrations when you consider the time you take the test, the load the provider has to bear at the time etc...
My connection is actually a bit faster. I had a torrent downloading with over 7 Megabytes per second for some minutes. That would be over 56000k. The fastest upload I saw in azureus was 6.5 Megabytes per second.

I thought so, too. ;D WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
massive speed! I'm going to try to download some torrents today with my new connection. I already ordered a wireless router and it should be here on Monday or Tuesday then all my five computers will be hooked online!

Sorry I was asking Kuvio, his internets are 42k down and 262k up. I thought that I didn't need to quote him since my message was right below his.

Seriously though, loading problems are not your fault (at least on 4chan). That site is under constant DDoS attacks and God knows what else.

Famicomworld, like 4 minutes.
Some pages Never loaded, they just gave up or something :(

This particular speed test doesn't work for dial-up, or at least the upload test doesn't. I have a one-way cable Internet connection (cable to download, dial-up to upload), and while my download speed was accurate, my upload speed was reported as being twice as fast as it should be. So, even though Kuvio's dial-up connection's download speed was reported correctly, his upload speed was just wrong.
And looking at these speeds...and the situations of people like Kuvio and I... I hope Obama's broadband initiatives can help America at least just
begin to catch up with Japan and South Korea.

Haha. Look at my starting post.
My last year results were still a bit better back then.
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/280643768.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
D: How did your results change so fast from your post on page 4?
This one's from last year.
But results can change really fast. The speed depends on so many factors, like how busy is the measuring server in just the second you connect to it.
The results are never 100% accurate and most of the time your actual speed is well above what your test result says.
Of course it's a wired connection.
Figured I'd revive this thread to celebrate my new internet connection in my new house. ;D We just got internet service today and we'll be finished moving in this weekend! I'm so excited to not live in the country!

(Test from back in my old house)
Spoiler
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/2062787856.png) (http://www.speedtest.net) To give it the benefit of the doubt, I just tested it again. I forgot we somehow switched to a closer server on the same ISP sometime in early 2010, but this will be one of the last times I use this connection.
Also, Manuel, your upload speed is crazy and so is the fact that you're connection is
only faster than 85% of Japan. :o
I'm kind of hating manuel right now.
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/2062577564.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
That's through my laptop with a fairly weak wifi signal. I've tested closer to 20 on my other hardwired computer. I don't really need more speed though, most of the time when I download large things the speed is limited by the device/sender, not really my internet pipe. For example the PS3, it just takes forever to do anything, and I know it has nothing to do with my download speed.
(http://www.speedtest.net/result/2062843983.png) (http://www.speedtest.net) Then 5 minutes later (http://www.speedtest.net/result/2062848900.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)

DOCSIS3 cable modem, no data caps. My ISP is even offering 120 Mbps down but with 4 Mbps up which I think it's ridiculously low and not worth shelling out the extra cash and upgrading my household LAN to Gigabit Ethernet for that.

:bub:
Edit: If I turn off uTorrent I get some more download speed :gamer:

(http://www.speedtest.net/result/2199692274.png) (http://www.speedtest.net)
I actually downgraded my service a few months back. Comcast was like $30/mo. when I first signed up, and it'd gotten up to around $75/mo. I called and complained a few times to keep my bill lower, but I finally had to just downgrade my service to save some extra moolah. It's currently $45/mo. and going up to $55 in November. I don't do torrents anymore, so I didn't really need the blazing speed anymore, and I can still stream 720p pretty good (1080p gets a bit choppy).
I might re-up to the high-speed over the winter if I find myself doing any online gaming, but I don't have anything that needs it for the moment.

I think I'm the only one here with FiOS, I just post in this thread the most :-[
