Any Virtual Boy gurus out there? I've got an issue with my beloved portable. >_>
The left eyepiece is starting to malfunction. I'm getting artifacting across the screen and sometimes half of it fails to appear. Anyone who has played the Virtual Boy knows that this will make a straining game that much worse. Have any of you encountered such a problem before? Is it common? Can you help?
Thanks for your time! :)
**EDIT**
Well I dug around some more and found this site (http://www.vr32.de/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=3295&forum=1) filled with info on my problem. Check it out even if you don't have a Virtual Boy, there's some crazy ways to fix it. One of them is called the oven method... try to guess what that entails! :P
Whoa. I get a few horizontal lines, but i'm not sure I'd be comfortable putting the innards of my VB into the oven to try and fix it. Maybe use a hairdryer or something (assuming I owned a hairdryer...).
Hats off to the guy who replaced his VB's flex cables with wires. EVERY SINGLE PIN.
His soldering skills aren't very good (judging by the pictures), but he managed to fix the problem. Kudos to him!
IMHO, I'd try the heating method first, applying firm pressure on the cable when letting it cool down. In fact I've fixed an old Casio Data Bank that way. You could also get some tiny binder clips to clamp the flex cables firmly in place.
BTW, a heat gun should work perfectly for these kind of tasks. If you have a friend who mods/repairs Xbox 360s, you're set :P.
perhaps I could help :) pm me...
Well I got the Virtual Boy up and running thanks in part to the resident Master of the Universe, 133MHz. Thanks! :D
