Here's a sappy article written by the other gender: HERE (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27188395/). It asks an interesting question, not only if a video game has made you cry :'(, but what other emotions video games tap into. I think of the good feeling I get by reading the "love and friendship" message of the "good ending" in Bubble Bobble. :) I also think of the frustration of something like SMB2j and its damn maze that I can't ever figure out, and when I do, I forget the path by the next time I play. >:( A lot of people also point to the anger of cop-killer games.
Metal Gear Solid 3, every single time.
The original Ninja Gaiden series was always emotionally invoking, especially the first one: from the "death" of Ryu's father to the sunrise at the end.
I never cried because of something that happened in a game. But there were some times where I got a little emotional and warm playing games I hadn't touched for ages that I loved as a child.
I cannot think of a game that ever made me cry, but I can think of tons that made me mad, or happy.
Edit- I changed my mind, when I saw the end of Uninvited; it made me cry as it was a let down. The rest of the game was fabulous though, and thats why its my all time favorite videogame.
Yes, Metal Gear Solid 3 is probably the saddest one I've played. The ending can really choke someone up. But try MGS4. Also see Seiken Densetsu series.

I finished 4 over the summer when I got my PS3, and I gotta tell you...it was sad, but in a different way. 4 was almost triumphant in a sense, although with a sad undercurrent. 3 is just flat out nihilistic, like nothing you did in the game was for the best and it was all futile.
I hate to sound like a snerd, but I did get a little teary eyed in Chrono Trigger when Frog visited Cyrus' grave. :-[
Until now I haven't encountered a game that could educe a tear from my eyes. Movies and books yes, games no.
ET can definitely make you cry.
Yeah, the movie AND the Atari 2600 game.
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde for the NES will make you cry because it is such a horrible, horrible game.
If that's the case then try Home alone and Ghostbusters for the NES as well.
Remember the beginning of Rayman 2? With all the creature in cages, crying for help? I hadn't even known video games as well as I do now, and that was the first time a video game made me cry. I dreamt of helping everyone and kicking the person who made them suffer's arse. Then I'd pull his neck out, use it as a clothesline, and use his head as a pinata beore slitting his throat and... >:(... I guess I got carried away. But yeah. :-[ :-[
awaaaaaa! ;D umm how about in FF7 the part where Aeris gets killed by Sephiroth at the end of Disc 1. I heard that made a lot of grown man cry back in the day.
I hear that a lot too, but I was more of an N64 guy...
I guess the equivalent would be Zelda: Majora's Mask, OMG! SPOILER! seeing the dead Deku shrub at the end, who you couldn't help... :'( poor Deku shrub. :'(
If we could only turn back time... (http://www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/traurig/sad-smiley-002.gif)
The only game that's made me shed tears is the Xbox game Dreamfall the longest Journey's ending. or should I say LACK THEREOF :'(
