I've been checking out this guys stuff for a while now:
http://www.the-king-of-games.com/
He has some seriously awesome t-shirt designs, all famicom themed. He's got an official license from Nintendo to do all this stuff too, what a life! His shirts are like 50 bucks though so I won't be getting one any time soon.
anyone else heard of this guy or own any of his shirts?
That is AWESOME!
Yeah! Those shirts are awesome but way to expensive but that's the way it goes with any sort of designer shirts in Japan.

Has anyone ever been to this site? They have some really cool famicom shirts on there but I noticed that their Japanese site has even more on it. I wish I could read Japanese. I also would like a subscribtion to that retro gaming magazine, but the damn thing is from England and its like 150 dollars American for one year which is a ripoff. I highly recommend the king of games site though
Nice site.
He has some really good designs in there. Quite expensive, but really nice. :D
Maybe when I find a well-paid job in Japan...
I ordered the Famicom shirt, the one that has a picture of the system on it, shown from all different angles. It was about 55$ American inlcluding shipping. I still am waiting for a confirmation email stating that they've shipped it though. Do they take a while to ship their shit out or are they just lazy about emailing the tracking info?
I'd order one, but these days I'm no longer a skinny guy, and Japanese sizes run SUPER small. Maybe they'll start selling an XXL soon haha!
The shirts dont really look that small in the pictures. There's a measuring chart on the site. I'm sure a Large or an XL would fit you fine

Better cut back on that veal chop. ... ;D Sorry, couldn't resist. ::)
Even Japanese sizes really depend on the maker. Believe me. Even I found clothes that fit me in Japan and I'm big by Japanese standards. ;)
Just order the biggest size they have and that should be fine.
Hey Kris glad to see your back! Did your move go okay?
I think that post above was from nearly a year ago :D
Oh so it was ::)
I guess this topic got merged.
Hey veal, hasn't the wii workout been working for you??? ;) I still have a balloon fight and a donkey kong game and watch king of games shirt if anyones interested, but the boxes got a little damaged in shipping. Damn, the post office treats packages bad! And the prices will be only a tad cheaper than ordering from the company.
I got my Family Computer shirt today from them. I also have 2 more shirts I ordered (the Gomoku Narabe one, and the Luigi 20th anniversary one) on the way
Yikes! Thats a lot of money for 3 t-shirts. Unfortunately I can't roll like that anymore hahaha :D
yeah they are a bit pricey but since I believe those shirts are rare and limited in quanity, i figured I would just bite the bullet and order them
are you going to wear them or put them on display?
wear them, but I'm definately keeping those nifty boxes they come in. They look like the old famicom game cartridges.
post some pics?
sure thing, when i get them
EDIT: I got the shirts yesterday. Here are the pics
This is a Disk System shirt that I had custom made. Here is me wearing it

Very cool shirts, man!!
But the Game & Watch versions are better then the Famicom
ones, IMO:

But the Famicom ones are still very, very nice!
I still have the grey donkey kong game and watch one in size large for $45 plus shipping if anyones interested, but the box is smashed a little. Thats shipping form California now too :\
I think the problem, kris, is that they're 45 dollars :(

It's tough to justify, but I'm going to probably buy both. I just need to wait till I get paid again.
I actually signed up for membership on the Japanese site. There isn't really much there, except for some mario and yoshi knick knacks and stuff like that. What I really want is a subscription to retro gamer but the damn thing is like over 100 dollars for a subscription
Yeah, I`ve been on the verge of clicking the submit button on a Retro Gamer subscription application a while now. It`s so damn tempting.
me too. I would probably order a sample issue just to see what it is all about first. Personally, the consoles I have the most interest in are Famicom (of course), NES, Atari 2600, and Atari 5200. I really don't care about any of the 16-bit systems or really anything from the 90's for that matter. Those consoles just don't have that retro appeal to me. When I play the Atari Systems or Famicom, I get that sense of a nostalgic feel to it as well as the games being pretty good. When I play SNES, Genesis, Playstation of Nintendo 64 I don't get that feeling. They just seem dated to me. They haven't aged very well in my opinion
Anyone have a link to where I might be able to subscribe to that? I've seen it in high end book stores in Toronto for like $25 an issue, and never really considered buying it until you guys just brought it up.
https://secure.widearea.co.uk/cisubs/IMAG/RET/WEB006
£80.00 = $170.151 CAD
caugh caugh....ouch. Then again, that's $13 an issue, which is much less than what they sell fro at the World's Biggest Book Store. I still might buy the mag.....does anyone know if the fees include shipping or is that added ontop of everything?
Yeah, if you go to Barnes and Noble every month and pick it up, I think, it`s about the same price as a subscription. Then you can pick and choose which issues you want since they definitely may cover a lot of stuff you`re not interested in. For me, I love the late 80`s, early 90`s systems which do have a fair share of coverage but there are always articles I`m not interested in as well. Of course that would be for any magazine but your talking about spending over $10 and issue then you start to get a littl emore picky about the content. When the magazine first came out, they had so much coverage of systems like Sinclair, Amstrad, Spectrum (which imo sucked) but now after they changed publishing companies and editors it`s been more fair to all, however, that does mean that there is more coverage of later systems like N64.
The publisher, Imagine Publishing, seem really great too. The magazines have great art direction and always look fantastic. I`d love to check out there other mags as well, has anyone read any of the others? http://www.imagine-publishing.co.uk/ I did buy an issue of Games tm before, which is dedicated to new releases, and is also quite good.
Do they really sell Retro Gamer at Barnes and Noble?
Ya but theyre like 13 bucks an issue. I like the magazine, but they cover a lot of stuff I'm really not into, like early computer games (amiga and stuff like that). Plus their famicom coverage never tells me anything I don't already know. Now THIS magazine looks like the SHIT:
CHECK THIS OUT (http://editionspixnlove.fr/web/pixnlove/pixnlove.nsf/frmRelocator?ReadForm&Element=vwNews%3FOpenView&RefID=AEA1FADA27223C47C125720F005B523F)
Now if only it was in English! :D
french is like english only it sounds more retarded
i could probably read it even though i suck at french
is there only one issue of it?
I think the magazine just started. I found out about it through this dude, who has a collection that makes my fucking blood boil:
http://f.heilig.free.fr/
Those look more like graphic novels than a magazine :D
Japanese goods like those are so high in quality, no wonder they cost so much. They're still overpriced though.
if you are talking about the shirts, yeah, but retrogamer mag is british. but i'm pretty sure you're talking about the shirts :)
Pretty much everything is overpriced in Japan. My sister got me two keychains at an anime convention of a Famicom and ROB the robot, both imported from Japan and they were both 9 bucks a pop. NINE BUCKS FOR A FREAKING KEYCHAIN!! I'm glad I don't live over there with those kind of inflated prices
but food is cheaper than in most other countries. I'm sure kris can attest to that.
And also something I notice of Retrogamer is that the magazines seem expeneisve. You can tell just by looking at the cover and the quality of ink and paper used.
Well, I`d say that food in Japan is the same per dish as America on average, however, in America one dish can serve two people. In Japan, it may take two dishes to fill you up!!
no wonder we weight 300 pounds and die at 50 in america
anyway, the keychains arent 9 dollars in japan, its called scalping, and that's what importers at anime conventions do best
I've seen those same keychains on ebay for similar prices, so I don't know if its price gouging or if they generally are that expensive
Anyway, I went looking for retro gamer at Barnes and Noble today. Sadly to say they didn't have it. I'll keep looking
Borders also carries it.
