Title: Recca: Summer Carnival '92
Post by: JC on September 21, 2006, 07:05:34 am
Anyone know what a excellent condition CIB Recca would go for? I've been offered one and don't want to get ripped off.

Jeez, considering there was what, less than 500 made....I've seen 16-bit try and sell his for 600. I've seen it go for as high as 1000 before though, maybe it was Japan-Games? If they're offering less than 200 I'd grab it quick, but I doubt theyre offering it for less than that.

Loose it goes for about $199. CIB I wouldn't pay more than $600.

How many were made you think? I thought maybe 500, but considering it was only at this festival it was probably more like 50.

I thought it was officially released for the Famicom by Naxat Soft at some point? But no, I have no idea how many were made.

I believe I have a pirated FC-cart with Recca: Summer Carnival '92 on it somewhere, too late to go and have a look, and I don't want to wake up my g/f sleeping in the same room. Is the game common on pirate-carts?

Never heard of it on pirate carts!

Same here, and I've seen and read about a lot of pirate carts.

Whoa damn! That's awesome! :D

I'm always amazed at the pirates that are out there. I bet a lot of the most sought after games can be found in pirate form. One of the pirate carts I own has the same itty-bitty board. If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for that and where'd you find it?

Think it came from a bigger lot.. But I didn't pay that much for the lot so maybe around 5 bucks for Recca.

EDIT: Swedish auction site..

So that deal I was working for the Recca fell through. The dude was asking $360 for it CIB, but then said he couldn't get it for me after all. Oh well. I'm thinking of trying to track down a cart-only instead. It'd be more affordable for my tightening pocketbook.

WOW!  :o
Only 500 existing copies???
I am the lucky owner of a loose but perfect Recca: Summer Carnival 92!!!
This game rocks!
There is millions of sprites at the screen at the same time!!!
Unbelievably hard shooter!
I just love it!

It's pretty rare, but I would venture to say more than 500 copies were made. I'd put it between 5,000 and 15,000...but I don't know for sure.

Could become expensive.
I found a cart only copy in an online shop that's usually cheap, but the game you want is 18400 Yen there. Cart only mind you. :o

Good lord, I've seen it loose for like $199 on eBay. Too bad too, it's a damn good game. Really fast and amazingly intense shooter.

Recca isn't a game in true limited edtition. 500 made?  ;D

for a game with 500 made the value is over 160.000 Y and Recca is sold usually for 30/40.000 Y (50/60.000 when condition are mint).

I think the Recca circulation is 15.000+ made

Does anyone have a clear cartridge shot? I just tied this game out on my PSP, and man it's awesome! I want to get an NES repo of it. Any chances I could get a cover scan?

Famitsu didn't seem to like that game so much...
Only gave it a 4/4/6/5.

Famitsu isn't real a good source for shoot em up ratings  :(

To be true Famitsu isn't a good source for ANY type of game... ;)
I always buy Famitsu just for the mass of screenshots and the cool design.

famitsu gave a high score to dirge of cerebus. they're just a bunch of sellouts.

Hm... I buy it when I'm in Japan.
Or if I want one I have it sent to me by my mother-in-law.  ;)

Otherwise there are sometimes Famitsus on ebay.
And there have to be some online bookstores that have it. Postage could become expensive, though, because Famitsu is so heavy.

Does "Recca" mean "Flare" -- I saw a pirate label that says "Flare" under "Recca"?

The kanji used for Recca is 烈火, which means "raging fire; conflagration" according to JDIC.  Example sentences seem to define it as "raging mad" or to be furious, or something to that extent.

I've finally been playing my Recca cart, and I had been dying often on the level after the second boss.  Just a moment ago, I finally beat the silver dragon/snake thing...then the game did something I don't recall seeing in any other shooter game...the level goes backwards, then backwards at hyperspeed...then another harder version of the dragon/snake thing...then forwards again...then I died  :P

I'm sure this isn't news to most people, but I had no idea it did that.

Does anyone know of any other shooter game that goes backwards?

And does anyone keep their high scores for that game? (I usually don't care about scores, but with this game, I find one of my main goals is to beat my previous score)  I just got 1,187,399 (next to nothing I'm sure, but I keep increasing it each time I play).   Unfortunately the game seems to give me a bit of a headache.

I dunno what my final score was, but the best I've ever done in one go was beat the first game, and then got about halfway through the second one.  I've beat the 2nd game on an emulator, but that doesn't count. :P

There's little reason to play Recca's Normal mode for score. As keeping the bomb fully charged increases your score, it's trivial to just sit on your ass during boss fights and rack up the points. And in Hard mode you can max out the score counter fairly easily.

Now, the caravan modes are where it's at. My best in 2-minute mode is 512,801.
