PARIS, France (CNN) -- Osama bin Laden has a water-borne illness, a Saudi intelligence source told CNN on Saturday, a report that conflicts with an article in a French newspaper saying that the al Qaeda leader is dead.
The Saudi intelligence source told CNN's Nic Robertson that there have been credible reports for the past several weeks that bin Laden is ill, but there has been no word of his death.
The questions came in response to the publication of a report in the French regional newspaper L'Est Republicain on Saturday. (Watch CNN's Nic Robertson reveal the latest intelligence on bin Laden's health -- 1:54)
The article cited a confidential French foreign intelligence document dated September 21 in which a source said the Saudis had received confirmation that bin Laden died of typhoid in Pakistan on August 23.
French President Jacques Chirac said on Saturday he would investigate the leak of the confidential documents, adding that the information in the documents has not been confirmed.
"I was rather surprised to see that a confidential note from the DGSE [General Directorate for External Security] was published and I have asked the minister of defense to start an investigation immediately and to reach whatever conclusions are necessary," Chirac said after meetings on trade with Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Compiegne, France.
"Secondly, speaking of the source of the information itself, this information is in no way confirmed."
CNN terrorism analyst Peter Bergen said he was told bin Laden's immediate family had had no reports that the al Qaeda leader was dead.
Bergen said Jamal Khalifa, bin Laden's brother-in-law and best friend when they were students at the King Abdul Aziz University in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, told him he had heard nothing to confirm the report.
Batarfi remains in touch with bin Laden's immediate family in Jeddah, and said he spoke to some of them about the report but they said they have heard nothing to confirm it, said Bergen who noted that rumors of bin Laden's death circulate every few months.
Bergen, who once interviewed bin Laden, said he was skeptical of the suggestion that bin Laden might be dead, saying it was not something the Islamist Web sites would keep quiet about.
U.S. intelligence officials said Saturday they could not confirm the report suggesting that bin Laden might be dead, and White House spokesman Blair Jones added: "We have no confirmation of that report."
A senior administration official told CNN's John King that nobody he spoke to had any independent information on the report.
"The official stressed that they certainly have not developed any intelligence worthy of putting it on the president's desk," King said.
Journalist: Burial site hunted
Laid Sammari, the journalist who wrote the article, told CNN in a telephone interview he was confident of the authenticity of the confidential document cited in his report.
He said the only thing the Saudis were trying to confirm was the burial place of the al Qaeda leader, before making an official announcement.
The report in L'Est Republicain said the Saudi secret service first got the reports of bin Laden's death on September 4.
Pakistani officials also said Saturday they have no information that confirms bin Laden's death. Friday, U.S. President George Bush and Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf said in a joint news conference that the hunt is still on for the leaders of al Qaeda.
The terror group was behind the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States that killed nearly 3,000 people in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington.
The last message from bin Laden was an audiotaped post on an Islamic Web site on June 30. The CIA confirmed the voice giving the message was that of the al Qaeda leader.
In the message, bin Laden names Abu Hamza al-Mujaher as Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's successor as leader of al Qaeda in Iraq.
The last videotaped statement from bin Laden was aired on October 29, 2004 on Al Jazeera.
CNN Producers Katie Turner in London and Pam Benson in Washington D.C. contributed to this report

Yep. Bumped on the head somehow.
(I've merged three threads so we can keep all deaths in one; Michael's important enough to have his own.)
looks like vince from slap chop has a opprotunity with his primary salesman competitor being out of the way. :D
sadly you will no longer hear billy's loud over the top voice anymore telling you to buy magic putty
I just saw an Orange Glo commercial...it was much shorter, they took out all the scenes with Mays, except his arm when he was putting it on the floor, and instead, they just had a woman's voiceover saying exactly what Billy said...with less emphasis and hand motions. :'(
i saw an oxy clean commercial like that.

Yes.
There are already memorial corners in book stores with all Crayon Shinchan mangas.
That sucks! Was he still part of the team that creates new episodes? Maybe Adult Swim will play old episodes as a tribute to him, now. :P It makes me wonder how old the episodes that are claimed to be new on Adult Swim really are, though.
"New" anime on adult swim means "adult swim hasn't aired this episode yet". It's the same as their "new" Family Guy episodes, which are just the episodes Fox aired the previous weekend.
I think they still produce new anime episodes. But I'm not sure how long the material they have will last.
a girl that i used to be friends with in my school died last night in a car crash. we have at least one person in our school die per year. last year was the only time we didnt. its really fucked up that she died she was only 17 :'(
When I was a senior in HS, three or four from our class died. One shot himself. Another was driving drunk with friends and killed two of them when he crashed. I don't remember the other.
Yeah, same thing happened at our school - driver drunk, person behind driver died, the rest didn't.

I got to see him twice in concert (once for Dio and the other for H&H). I've never seen anyone more pleasant onstage, nor show as much appreciation for his fans as Dio.
This is rather depressing and shocking news. Unfortunate too that his passing was due to the same ailment my mother had--it seems to bring this news closer to home for me.
For my mother's funeral, I had a poem read that I had written some years back. I'll post it here as well:
Hero
The body of a hero, guided by the skies
makes selfless actions through and through.
For heroes pass away, and honor never dies.
Ridding mind of pain and fear, a hero always tries
through timeless scars, shades black and blue
the body of a hero, guided by the skies.
Heroes may push through crimson clouds and metal flies
through all nature, to life anew.
For heroes pass away, and honor never dies.
Of young and old, black and white, of all religious ties
one may just look and find in you
the body of a hero, guided by the skies.
For a hero can be one that tells no lies
or shows all their love, and shares it too.
For heroes pass away, and honor never dies.
Yet to be a hero, have honor one seldom buys
know first, both peace and war entomb
the body of a hero, guided by the skies.
For heroes pass away, and honor never dies.

Liz Taylor has just snuffed it as well... Sorry, no source because this is breaking news (and no, not satire).
On 19th April 2011, the world lost a shining light: Elisabeth Sladen, best known for her role as 'Sarah Jane Smith' in the long-running serial 'Doctor Who' passed away after a several-month long battle against cancer. Liz was a beautiful person, and this is a loss not only to fans of her work on the screen, but also to the brightness of life as a whole.
Elizabeth Sladen was only 63-years young when she closed her eyes for the last time, and I couldn't help but feel a horrible pang in my chest when I read her memorial tribute and was shocked with the unfolding awareness of her departure earlier today. She touched the hearts and minds of a great number of people, and her role as Sarah Jane was truly inspiring. It was a joy to see her return, if briefly, to once again journey with The Doctor and I, along with many of you will sorely miss her. Brave heart, my friends.
Rest well, Liz. :bomb:

I had a feeling our resident Slovak would have something to say about that. :P But yeah all I meant was that he lead his country, and yours, to freedom through peaceful means, much like Gandhi. I could have also said he was the Nelson Mandela of central Europe, but the Velvet Revolution was a few years before the end of Apartheid.

It truly is a sad day for the game industry.......
Yamauchi-san. Thank you for so many wonderful and unforgettable memories.
RIP Lou Reed/

Umberto Panini (creator of the Panini albums and stickers) :(
Very sad news. Just heard moments ago that the wonderful Nelson Mandela has sadly passed away.
My little turtle, i found it while walking in forest, poor guy must have catch cold or something, he's dead, found out few hours ago :'(
I'm so sorry Smeghead. Anyone with a loved pet knows that they are not animals, they're part of the family. Hope you're ok my friend.
That guy from tv series Fresh Prince (Phil?) :( :( :(
James Avery, and he was also the voice of Shredder on TMNT. Huge Fresh Prince fan so I was very saddened to hear of this today.
Trigger from 'Only Fools And Horses' :'( :'(

RIP JewWario
We all loved your videos. I will miss YCPT. ,your candy videos and all the other fun videos you have made. RIP Justin and condolences to his family and friends
Is this true? What a loss! He was my favourite game review video maker, and seemed to be such a nice guy.
RIP Justin.
Yes P it is true :(
He shot himself on January 23rd. We still do not know much details about it. His wife said that he locked himself in the bathroom and just did it : /
This one hits me pretty hard. If it wasnt for JewWario, I wouldn't be importing games. It's because of him, I got Nazo no Murasame Jo.
RIP my jewish friend. Condolences to his wife, who had to go through an incredibly traumatic experience as well.
(I have no words) :'(
This is awful news, I don't know where to begin. I can't believe this, I can't imagine what his family are going through.
I'm completely shocked. The worst is that he committed suicide with a gun. Justin was a friend as he was to many.
I skyped with him frequently, and the last time was only just a few days ago. He never expressed any suicidal tenancies to me. Last I spoke to him, he was jovial, and I gave him early access to the hack I'm working on, and planned on sending him a physical copy when it was finished.
I'm completely shocked and incredibly saddened. Justin was a good man, and I will miss him deeply.
That's far too bad. I greatly enjoyed his videos. RIP JW :redcart:
I'm speechless. He will be sorely missed.
By the way I wanted to say if anyone would like to leave a message for his loved ones, his facebook page is here:
https://www.facebook.com/pages/JewWario/124357797592098?filter=2
His mother has seen the messages of love and support and seems somewhat overwhelmed. If you knew Justin or just liked his videos even, it might be nice to leave a fond message in remembrance.
I'm still shocked by this news. Having known others with depression I know how desperate it can be and hope that in death he has some solace.
Just read that Philip Seymour Hoffman has died, another sad story.
omg I just read about JewWario. I didn't know him personally but I've watched a bunch of his vids and read posts on here. Noone should ever have to battle those demons, on his end and his families. Take care man. I know you're doing what you love in a better place.
I just found out about Jew Wario yesterday and am really saddened to hear what happened. He will be missed. :
RIP Harold Ramis :'(
Perhaps best known for playing Egon in the Ghostbusters movies.
What?!? Sadness :(
Yeah. Didn't he direct caddy shack?
Wow. That's sad. I've recently been going through some minor depression, but it's sad that good people would take their own lives. It's also disappointing that we can't help certain people going through this because they don't tell us or really don't want help, or some other reason. I hope we can support his family and friends, and I also hope that where ever he is now, he doesn't have to suffer from depression any more. :( :'(
OMG it's so sad, i am big fan of Ghostbusters movies, that guy was awesome actor!! :(
My grandpa is being taken off life support in 1 hour.
RIP Grandpa......
That's so sad, Max, accept my compassion.
grandpa's are always great persons in most of families,
RIP
He's gone now.

Hugs for you. I lost my Pop (grandfather) to bowel cancer last year I will go have a cup of tea in his honour perhaps with a shot of something in it for my own Pop :P
One of my doll friends who ran a forum that was once one of my safe places on the internet died last week :(
My condolences. My grandpa also passed away like 5 years ago. He had never been sick when suddenly one day he became ill and then he didn't last that long.

I'm sorry for your loss, Max. I'll join in with a soda. It's been a while (a day) since you made this post, but I'll still join in. Both of my grandparents (on my mom's side of the family) died in Dec. 2012, and sometime (I forget when though) in 2013.

I didn't see the movie yet. Sorry he died. :(
Heard the movie was shitty, but it was a part of people's childhoods.
It's funny how some things suck, but because they were in your childhood, and you have good memories about them, they seem awesome to you.

Ugh. One of my childhood video games.
RIP Bob Hoskins. He was also great in who framed roger rabbit. Very sad
I like Michael Jackson very much.

I almost died today :( (been on running and the outside was so hot that my legs felt like somebody burning them, came home and couldn't stop sweating)
I learned that H.R. Giger passed away recently.
I would've expected more news about this. I don't even remember where I found this out. ??? Anyway, I'm sure I don't have to say much about him; the man was extraordinarily creative and influential. Nearly everything sci-fi in video games pay respect to his works.
Hey, that would be a great article! H.R. Giger in Video Games
It is sad, he was an amazing artist. I have a bunch of Geiger books - the best bit are the stories he tells about his younger years, I was surprised how normal he seemed yet he produced these elegantly horrific artworks.
One day I'd like to visit the Geiger Bars. There's one in Tokyo and one somewhere in Europe from memory.
Robin Williams. Apparently he had been suffering from depression for a long period of time. Cause of death hasn't been announced but the news said something about a possibility of asphyxiation.
My uncle Barry died yesterday of brain cancer. :'(
I'm sorry to hear that... My condolences to you and your family.
I'm sorry security, it's hard and always a shock when we lose somebody close, my grandmom before 7 years died, from brain cancer too. :(
Thanks guys. He lived a few months longer than the doctors had expected and there wasn't a whole lot they could do to stop the cancer which was good that he got some extra time with his kids and the rest of the family.
My condolences Security. Good that he could stay with family. My grandfather died a few years ago by cancer. We stayed with him every day including all my uncles and aunt during his last time.
Cancer sucks and there is a possibility that it's coming for my boobs :-\ I get them regularly checked but they've found a lump thats misbehaving so being safe rather than sorry with it.

Leonard Nimoy :'(
Just found out about Spock. I will miss him... He was a very iconic figure, changed many peoples lives.
Sadly, I just read that Sir Christopher Lee has passed away. An incredible talent with a rich history of achievements, a sad day indeed.

RIP Mr. Iwata
I have just read that our Dear friend Satoru Iwata has sadly passed away, at what is a relatively young age too... :(
Not everyone agreed with his initiatives, but he did a lot of good for Nintendo, how on Earth will they replace him.
:'(
So sad. Iwata always seemed like a pretty great guy. I'll be playing some Balloon Fight in his honor.
:'( Very very sad, even sadder than when Yamauchi died since Iwata was so terribly young.
It would be nice to get a few details together of the games he worked on during the Famicom age.
He seemed a really really nice chap too. I wasn't aware he was battling cancer either.
Indeed sad.. R.I.P
Rest in peace. :redcart:
Some nice quotes and thoughts for Mr. Iwata and those he leaves behind, here:

R.I.P. Mr Iwata.
So that's why he didn't come to E3. They said he was busy but probably he was very sick.
He worked on some of my favourite games I'm sure. The mother series and possibly Eggerland (he worked for HAL before Nintendo). Some quick googling turned up this list http://nintendo.wikia.com/wiki/Satoru_Iwata but in most of it he is just the Executive Producer.
He died on Saturday peacefully with family from what I had read.
RIP, Iwata-san. :'(
He was so uniquely qualified to head Nintendo. It's such a shame he passed so young.
Very, very sad.
For the last 5 years or so for me he was this nice man who just happened to be the CEO of a huge corporation. It's so unbelievable when you think about it that he and Reggie, both CEOs,
starred together in a video where they fought like it was a movie. In that 3DS trailer. When Iwata held the bananas... He was anything but the typical "suit" we think of when we think of CEOs.
And even if I didn't love Nintendo since childhood, anyone's death is sad (with a few exceptions) and Iwata was only 55 which is no age at all to die at.
I hope his legacy lives on and that Nintendo will continue his tradition of being open, fun and approachable.
:(
I've seen so many legitimately touching things in memory of him on the internet these past two days. For as much flack hardcore Nintendo fans get, it sure is nice to see that proven wrong. RIP.
Rest in peace.
Rowdy roddy piper my favorite pro wrestler of all times. R.I.P. http://m.nydailynews.com/news/national/pro-wrestler-roddy-piper-dead-61-article-1.2311240?cid=bitly

My friend told me about him. It's a shame...
RIP David Bowie
Wow, that one came as a shock, had no idea he was battling cancer. Thoughts with his family.
But he just released a new album! And two new, amazing music videos! I was listening to him all weekend!
I can't parse a world without David Bowie right now :'(
Rip the goblin king. My favorite track by him was fascination.
Can't believe this. :( Just found out about it.
His death is so unusual to me, because I've always felt Bowie a legend... a living legend--someone who's music we're blessed to enjoy and know he's still around and shares a place on this earth. I never took David for granted. This man is larger than life.
Now he's gone. :-\
...and now Alan Rickman as well :(

What the hell, I think 69 is still way too early to go.
Rest well, Alan Rickman. :(
Now George Gaynes has died :(
Hope they don't call him Shirley in heaven..

When I was in Ottawa in high school, some guy in my school murdered his mom during the lunch break. Some people are messed up.
It's sad to see that the murder was drug related. That's my main concern with the marijuana laws in Canada - teens get involved with criminals and there's no rules in the drug game. People get robbed, beaten, and sometimes murdered. It's so uncivilized :(
This week has been nasty - first Marie from Everybody Loves Raymond, then yesterday Victoria Wood, and now Prince?!? Come on! :(
Also Chyna of the WWE. :/
I just heard about this. It's like the Michael Jackson week all over again. :-\

A legend in Sport, Faith and Humanity...
Rest in Peace...
Very sad to hear about Mr. Ali. He was very inspiring in my opinion not because of the religious choices - but because he revolutionised boxing based on his personal approach, and I love that he achieved that with all the charisma to boot. So I like to remember who he was in his own person, not who he was as a symbol for something we like. It seems a little unfair to his memory to use him as a statement, to me.
When we talk about Muhammad Ali we all agree he was an inspire to everyone. In Freedom of religious and racial justice, Rights of black Americans and the defense of the oppressed, Against war, Patients and so on... For me he was the symbol! Muhammad Ali not just a legend boxer but also Great Person. :star:
That's a very nice thing to say, I wasn't directing my comment at you personally though Mo, I like to think I know you well enough to know you are a warm and kind person my friend.

Yeah that shocked me when he died. It's makes me realize how mortal we all are. We're here for a good time. Not a long time.

Thanks guys. It means a lot. I'm going to be busy with funeral stuff over the next bit so I won't be around as much as I'd like to be.
I'm really sorry to hear that Max, I hope the next few weeks get easier as they go along, and family all help each other come to terms. We're all friends here and have you in mind.
Thanks. I just really hope that this ends up bringing our family closer together. We are all so distant.

Legend.
I used to love the old batman with Adam west. It was so bad. Everyone would just be standing around talking and then all of a sudden some lame fight would come on and then comic strip "POW" "SLAM" etc bubbles would pop up all over the screen implying some major fight and then suddenly everyone is on the floor lol. Good times.
He also played a batman spoof character in this crazy cartoon called fanboy and chumchum. That show is fricken crazy lol.
RIP Isao Takahata

My wife's Dad lost his battle with liver cancer this morning. He's not in pain anymore.
Sorry for your loss :'(
RIP my dad who passed away yesterday. He had very bad medical condition with several diseases for several last years so he's not in agony anymore
I'm sorry for your losses Maximus and MaarioS.
Thank you and sorry for your loss MaarioS
Maario S and MaxXimus, I'm really sorry to hear about both of your losses.
Really sorry for both of you. Please take the time you need to spend with your loved ones and remember we are always here if needing to talk. Games are secondary but FW is so much more than just games. Big hug for both you.
Many thanks to all for the support!! I actually got over it, wishing the same to MaxXimus and anyone else that lost their relatives unfortunately. This is why there is NES to cope with those tough times
What about Gunpei Yokoi?
I just found out Franco Zefirelli died. Coincidentally, I just bought the Romeo & Juliet film soundtrack and am rewatching it.
Even though my ex and I aren't together anymore, I still cry over her dad's passing, and think of him all the time. Miss you Petaro man(peter)
RIP Torn :(
My Great Uncle died a few days back. Odd, it still feels he is here. Was always interested in games even if they where too complicated. Not bad for an 86 year old
I didn't know Paul Walker was dead until about a year ago. I am a fan of Fast and Furious and all, but hey, I don't watch the American news, and it sure wasn't on the Korean one!
My little sister passed away over the weekend. We were attached at the hip growing up, she was my only sibling. Cancer took her way too soon. This is far and away the most painful thing I've ever experienced. If you have a sibling, appreciate them. You think they are going to be there for the rest of your lives and can take them for granted, but when you lose them it just leaves this gaping hole in your life, like part of you died.
Ugh, cancer sucks. Sorry for your loss :'(

I'm also very sorry to hear that. I have siblings and I can't imagine loosing them.
Sorry to read that Sensei... my older sister also has cancer, but she's fighting, strong stubborn woman.
Take care man!
Thanks a lot guys, it means a lot.
MWK - I'm so sorry, I know exactly what its like. I hope she'll beat it, not every story ends up like my sister's. In my sister's case she fought hard, but she had stage 4 metastatic cancer which is unfortunately uncurable.
Shimura Ken RIP
One of Japan's best comedians and my favourite along with the other members of The Drifters (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7Hhv8jxXho) (a band and comedy group he debuted in). He was one of the people that was affected badly by the corona virus and got pneumonia. He passed away March 29. He was still an active comedian and was to appear in a movie and several TV programs, and was also scheduled to run with the Olympic torch.
He has many beloved characters he made including Hen na Ojisan (Strange Old Man) and Baka Tono (Silly Fedual Lord). The latter appeared in a limited edition version of Konami's Hyper Olympic (Genteiban) for the Famicom.
Shimura's humor is universal and generally doesn't require you to understand Japanese. Lots of his skits can be found on Youtube. Here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IegbC__bqs) is a classic skit that also Mr Bean made (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HeMmavFtJ3c).
My dad passed away yesterday from liver cancer. I'll miss him. Growing up, he owned a game store and if it wasn't for that, I would of never got into collecting for the Famicom and other consoles.
Sorry for your loss :(
