Hi there! 8)
I'm a great Castlevania / Akumajo Dracula Collector but I have a big question...
I found a blue famicom disk of Akumajo Dracula 2 (Simon's Quest) known as Famicom Disk Fax but I never heard about a blue version of this game and I searched on the web for having informations but I never found them...
Please, is there a collector here who own this version or is anybody can giving me more details on it?
Due to the lack of informations on that game, I can believe it's a rarity...
So, do you know how many games were released in Blue Famicom Disk Fax format?
Thanks a lot for helping me!
Best regards, David
If you want, I can take some picture of it! ^_^
A pic would be nice. As far as I understand, games released on the blue disks were meant to be used with the Famicom Disk System fax machine, which means the disk has the added feature of being able to save your high score and then you could "fax" it to Nintendo headquarters and possibly get some prize or at least get placed on a database of high scores. I might be wrong about that, but from what I know...that's my best guess.
You're right! ;)
So, the game is exactly the same as the "yellow" Dracula 2...but can stores hidden data only used by the Fax machine...
But I never found some informations for this game and its rarity...
The only blue disks I saw were 3D hot rally and Golf...
Do you know if there's an existing list of the blue disk released and some informations about their kind of distribution to the public, etc...
Thanks! ;D
Here's the pictures...

Enjoy! ;)
Nobody knows??? :'(
As far as I know there's no info out there. Great pictures! Mind if we use them on the site? Full credit to you, of course.
Of course, you can use it for the site! ;)
Yeah, the only blue disk carts I've seen are 3D Hot Rally and Golf. I am so curious to find out why Akumajo Dracula 2 is blue. 3D Hot Rally and Golf were both used in FDS competitions, as was F1 Race (I think F1 Race comes blue, too). I've never heard of an Akumajo Dracula 2 competition.
According to the Japanese wikipedia entry for the Disc System there were 5 fax games, which came on a blue disc. Those are:
"Golf Japan Course", "Golf US Course", "Nakayama Miho no tokimeki highschool", "Famicom Grand Prix F1 Race" and "3D Hot Rally".
4 of those 5 games are on this page:

I couldn't find even a clue in Japanese that there exists a blue disc version of Akumajou Dracula II...
Maybe what you have is a very rare proto or the likes(?) or somebody made that up (putting a Dracula II label on a blue disc and maybe even change the disk inside the shell), a possibility which you should consider I think.
Almost find Violent Ken! You must've found that in the deepest, darkest cavers somewhere... or maybe a flea market. :D
Do you have a manual for the game?
If you have and if you could scan it for me, I'd read through.
Should it be legit, there must at least be a paragraph about the fax function in there. If there's not, then I guess it was just made up.
Answer from my japanese contact :
Dracula II was only released on yellow disk.
a blue disk should be a rewrited disk in a combini.
You should bring your Japanese friend over here. :)
So someone had say, a mario golf Disk, to it to the Disk Writer kiosk, wrote castlevainia over it, took off the old golf label, and stuck on the castlevania label which I'm assuming the person at the register handed over with each download along with the single sheet manual (featherplukin recently auctioned off a Metroid one that went for over 100 bucks)?
HI!
Sukoshi's a friend of mine! ;)
We talked about that game on MSN Messenger...so I believe the game was a simple blue disk which was overwritten with a simple Akumajo Dracula 2 game (I played the game and there's no difference with the "yellow" one...)
At the Famicom Writer Times, shops can deliver you the original stickers for the game you just copied...
So, this game is rare and not...rare due to the game copied on the blue disk with the original stickers and there's probably only a few of "blue" Dracula 2 in the world...but it's not rare due to the possibility to do the same with another blue disk...
For your information, I've bought this one to featherpluckinfilms on ebay for 160$ last week...and I've completed it with the missing items (the plastic box and the collector card)! ^^
Thanks! ^_^

Ah, that's the way it was. :)
Yeah!
I don't think there's so much blue Dracula 2 in the world! ;D
!!!VERY RARE ITEM!!! :P 8)
Consider yourself lucky!!
Indeed it is a very cool item. :)
I'd also like to have one of those. :D
Until now I only own 1 FDS game (Zelda II) and that's only on ordinary yellow disc. Blue discs look better (at least to me 8) )
