Title: Interest check: Rare boxed pirate games
Post by: madman on January 08, 2009, 03:42:02 pm
I'm slowly cleaning out my Famicom stuff, but on the fence about keeping a few items. I have a brand new and boxed Super Mario World for Famicom (does not include instructions) that is 100% mint. I have a mint and boxed Somari (played once) that I don't believe has instructions but I can check the box. I also have a CONY "brand" SF2 pirate that is boxed w/instructions. The box and instructions have seen better days, but it's rare to find a CIB copy. I'm sticking my foot in the water to see what kind of offers I can get for these. Thanks. I can upload pics later tonight or tomorrow.

If you live in the U.S I would be interested in Somari

Yep, I'm in the US. I know the going rate for loose SMWs is around $50-60 so I'd expect a little more for a new one that is boxed. Somaris go for less than that, but again this is boxed so don't send an offer of $10 or something  ;D I'll try to do pictures tonight as I'm cleaning out my closet preparing to EBay a bunch of other stuff I don't use.

How much would you sell the Somari for?  I probably wouldn't buy it if it was over $30 :P

Hmm...they're all neat. I don't think you'll get Somari for $30. BTW: Did Somari and Super come with manuals. I know most pirated games had only boxes. For instance, I've to got Super with a box and no manual.

Yea, only SF2 had instructions. I may put Somari on EBay and take best offers for the others on here.

OH man I can't believe you are selling your boxed pirate games. I remember when you got them I was like wow he is probably never going to let them go. Anyways, best of luck selling them as for me I don't have anywhere near a decent offer to offer you.

You think it will go for under $30 on EBay? I've seen loose Somaris go for more on there.

Really?  I guess I didn't figure many people on eBay knew what pirates were :P

I think when he said that he wouldn't get it for $30, he was saying it would cost much more thatn $30  :P

Yeah I know, I meant that I didn't know that so many people on eBay knew how awesome pirates were :P

I'm wondering where the Somari came from :P

The cartridge, plastic thing, and box look near professional.

The other ones just look like pirate boxes :P

I think he had/has a contact in Hong Kong. That's the only place I've seen CIBs, with some rare exceptions in Argentina -- saw a BIC CIB -- and Taiwan -- saw a couple Chinese RPG CIBs. Since I don't like boxes and manuals, I hardly ever buy them. But, I have about five unlicensed with boxes, not counting disks like Hacker and Super Pig. The most professional are BIC's releases, which look like any licensed release.

Somehow I envy you.
Really.
I always try to convince myself that I don't need the boxes, but I'm always looking for CIB. :(
Cart only is so much cheaper and easier to get...

That's why I'm even interested in this Somari. The box looks very appealing.

I never understood the fascination with Somari, it plays awfully, so does SMW but I find that interesting at least to see a comparison of how a port COULD have turned out if rushed to release.

But yeah, 70 bucks for a pirate is alot to me, even if it is new it's still a bad version of a great game in my eyes.

I got an offer of $45 for Somari...you guys think I should take this or put it on EBay?

I think you shouldn't let it go for less than $65. I'm surprised it's not selling for more than that offer. :-\

Looks like I'll have to..but I'll be putting a reserve on there, so if anyone thinks they're gonna get it for $3 or something, that's not happening :)

Sounds good can't wait to see what it goes for.

A reserve?  reserves are auction killers, just put a starting bid at 30 or something.

Did you decide anything on the SMW mate?
Title: Re: Interest check: Rare boxed pirate games
Post by: madman on January 26, 2009, 07:13:30 pm
I've had better luck w/auctions starting at $1 w/ a reserve than starting auctions higher. People just like to bid, I've personally never had a reserve auction affect my bidding. Regardless of auction type, I bid what I'm willing to pay.

I haven't decided on SMW, but the offers that have been made are on here and it's not sold...so offering less won't get you the cart :)

Ahh ok, maybe stick it on ebay then?   If you don't want to I offered $70 and that's probably more than I'd usually pay.  If you decide that's good enough give me a shout bud.
