Title: Games we hear about but can't find...
Post by: skyrunner14 on January 17, 2009, 07:07:28 pm
I'm not sure if this is the right board for this kind of topic, but I guess it can be moved if it's not. Anyway, have you ever seen or heard of some Famicom game that piques your interest buy you can't find any copies of it on eBay or any other kind of site like that? I really want to find a copy of "Kawa no Nushi Tsuri", but there are none on eBay, and when I look on search engines all I find are ROM sites, but I do not use emulators. So, am I just unlucky, or do other people here have about the same luck with other games?

Takeshi no Chousenju (sorry about the misspelling)

I know what you mean buddy. Ever since I stumbled upon this site I've wanted this game; Super Mario Family '92! Anyone want to sell me a copy?  :)

You can find copies of Takeshi no Chōsenjō on Ebay from time to time. I got my copy for $3.00 US, so keep an eye out. The walkthrough on StrategyWiki (http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Takeshi_no_Chousenjou) really helps out in beating it.  ;)

I got a mint CIB copy of Takeshi for real cheap from a german seller on ebay, they pop up every now and then so you'll find one soon enough :)

I've been able to pretty much find everything I've been looking for, other than the full Super Mario World, which is on some multicart. You can find ANY licensed game on YHJ, even the really rare stuff, if you're willing to pay the high prices.

Thanks for the help on Takeshi guys!  I appreciate it...and that guide will come in handy eventually ;)

Thanks again

<_<

Not Famicom but definitely a game we hear about but never really see.

Still looking for Nintendo World Championships... I've got a line on one for a somewhat reasonable price, we'll see how that goes.

Don't give me that look!

Several online retailers I usually use have it, so it seems that one is quite easy to get in Japan.
Send me a pm if you want me to get it for you.

Most of the time I've found every game that I've wanted to find, but for some odd reason I ALWAYS had trouble finding Sweet Home, until I found one CIB copy from a Hong Kong seller...

definitely Gimmick!

Gimmick's what I'm after next because if you really want to play it, you can't just load up a rom on flashcart - that sound chip is what makes it special to me, what do CIB examples go for lately?

I can't find a real copy Choujin Sentai - Jetman, though I've played it through emulation.

The same goes for Tokkyuu Shirei - Solbrain.

CIB, Gimmick! could run you over $100. not really worth it unless you're a serious collector and willing to shell out that much.

Post by: Ghegs on January 18, 2009, 11:15:58 am
Really? I think I paid around $50 or $60 for my CIB Gimmick!. A bit less for my CIB Solbrain, but I think that took longer to find.

I've been on the hunt for a CIB Magical Kids Doropie for a while...
Title: Re: Games we hear about but can't find...
Post by: xyzzy32 on January 18, 2009, 11:31:05 am
IIRC the last time I saw it on ebay CIB it was far more, and I thought cart only Gimmick! was somewhere in the $40's. could be wrong though...

Gimmick uses the Sunsoftb5 which gives it three extra square waves and it should be worth more then $200.

Not for the famicom, but I would love to someday own a Super Mario 64 beta cartridge. I am sure that there is at least one somewhere out there, and I would pay a pretty penny for it to be able to play the game in its original state. :) *wishful thinking*

As a side note, if anyone knows of a beta rom, and not a hack of Super Mario 64, please  pass the info on this way. :)

CIB Gimmick! shouldn't really be over $200, not now, but I'd pay around $100 for one.

NWC is overrated..   it's like an 8 bit xbox live demo trial of 3 games :D

I think he's right. It's gaming history, but nothing new. It's quite limited.
Title: Re: Games we hear about but can't find...
Post by: manuel on January 20, 2009, 05:48:18 am
Yeah, he's totally right.
It's just so much sought after because it's damn rare. Nothing too special about the "game" itsself.

Nah, I am not a fan of repros or pirates or any of that crap. It'll happen, give me a bit, I'll get what I want. ;)

I've played the real deal several times and it's fun, it's basically an arcade game. I love arcade games.

If I was a good enough coder I'd be hacking all sorts of games to run like NWC - I'd just choose better games, ninja turtles, gimmick, castlevania maybe..

All's I can hack is colour data onstreet fighter 3  :(   but I wonder if we could us some of the utilities from zophar's domain to do things like this?

There's no magic tool that will let you roll your own NWC cart.  It would take a lot of time and effort in order to figure out how to do it (in general) and how to make each specific game work in its new context.

Everyone is absolutely right. The NWC like five years ago was THE hot topic in the NES community -- back when a copy would show up on eBay once a month. Now-a-days, the ROM is available, and it has been proven to be... not so special.

I once saw a copy of the gold cartridge for for $3,200! And I think another copy went for $4,000+! The grey one is much less expensive; I've seen copies go for $500 and less. Then again, this was years ago, when the community was at its best period for buyers.

Ahh yes I have been searching for years for a golden NWC cart. I always keep my eyes open at the flea markets and thrift stores. I know one day I'll find one then I'll get a heart attack and my brother will be the owner of the cart waaaaaaaaaaaaa!

I'd like that gold cart version of Rockman 4. But there's only 8 of them I heard.  :D

Someone should develop an NWC pirate for the Famicom..

That would kick major ass
Title: Re: Games we hear about but can't find...
Post by: JC on January 22, 2009, 10:07:06 am
You can't use the NWC on the Famicom with a converter because there's no "Start" button on the controller II, which starts the game, so that function would need to be hacked. I'd love to see it, but it doesn't sound like it'll happen, since there's no Famicom repro market -- the NWC is one of the few reasons to own the NES.

You could change that pesky start function to...

BLOW INTO THE MICROPHONE :D

Ahh but JC!!  You could use it on a Famicom AV maybe?  Using Nes / Dogbone controlelrs?  Or is it a system thing?!

[UPDATE]  there are two gold Rockman carts on YJ right now...
Title: Re: Games we hear about but can't find...

It's just the start button holding it back, I think.
Title: Re: Games we hear about but can't find...
Post by: JC on January 22, 2009, 10:22:32 am
Hmm...Good point. I've never tried it with the AV. I'll do that tonight. So, there may actually be no reason to own an NES...

I always have dreams of finding the golden cart then I wake up and there is nothing in my  hands sob sob.....anyways, should be interesting to check out about the NWC on Famicom.

Even if you did that, you still wouldn't have the right label...
The repro from retrozone says "retrozone" right on it...

Unless you made your own label..which I guess you'd almost have to...

Yeah the gold carts have a red label, so you'd absolutely have to.

For 1000 Yen a piece I'd take them.
