1. is the DS region locked
2. is the DSi region locked
The DS is not region-locked.
The DSi plays two types of games: DS games and downloadable DSiWare games. The DS games are not region-locked. The downloadable DSiWare games *are* region-locked.
oh, and btw. why do gaming companies region lock their games?
Because they're DUMB.
actually, there are many good reasons
Not in today's world where the Internets took over our lives.
It's all about *copyrights* for each territory.
But, yeah, it's stupid and with the internet and worldwide trading becoming a notmal thing, it's just stupid.
I have some questions about the DSi that i wish to ask.
- Is the video chat ive been hearing of on WiFi connection or is it only over the DSi's shortrange wireless network (like pictochat).
- Is the pictochat online?
- Does the DSi show video?
- Does it have a mail system like the Wii have so you can send messages to another DSi. if it has, is it also able to send an message to an Wii?
- Can you connect an DSi to an Wii over the short range wireless network?
- Can you record video with the DSi?
- Does the DSi have a larger network range than the DS?
- Can you watch Youtube/flash animations with the inbuilt browser?

Yes, you can connect old DS games that are playing in the DSi, and it I'm pretty sure you can connect DSiWare games too, of course depending on what the game is.

If you have to ask all that, just get a PSP. Bigger screen, better browser, better support. The PSP is the superior of the two, just that everyone seems to dislike it. I've got two PSPs, a DS phat and a DSL, and I'll sooner pick up a PSP slim than the DSi. If you want multimedia, the PSP is still the clear winner. If you want games though.....
If you use it for both(gaming and browsing) I'd get a DSi, because it has both, but it has better games than the PSP. Which is probably what you'd use it for the most (IMO)
True.
I sometimes think about getting a PSP, but I have not many arguments (games worth to be bought) for it.
Man totally forgot about the PSP....mine is somewhere....really forgot where and that's because of the lack of games released on it. Nintendo is slaying yet another portable, way to go Nintendo.
if i had money id buy the PSP ::)
buy a used older fat model. They go for less than the price of a new DSL.
To manuel, others: The PSP has good games that just don't get talked about much. Due to the aspect ratio of the screen, sidescrollers are incredibly well done on the PSP. If that's your thing, check out both Megaman remakes (Powered Up, remake of NES Megaman 1 and Megaman Mavrick Hunter X, remake of Megaman X1) as well as Castlevania the Dracula X Chronicles (PCE CD Rondo of Blood, a remake of Rondo of Blood specifically made for the PSP, and a port of Symphony of the Night with properally translated script and actual GOOD voice actors)
That, and the PSP is incredibly easy to hack to enable it to play your choice of NES, Genesis, TurboGrfx, Gameboy, Gameboy Adance, SNES, PS1, hell, even N64 on the go.
PSP is good for homebrew/hacking
And one of the few reasons I have a PSP is to play Katamari :P
But I still recommend the DSi or DS because of the Flashcards, or with the DSi, SD cards also that let you play virtually any game available behind the N64
Plus..Sony stole several games that were previously released on other (Nintendo) systems :-\
