Title: The Xbox 180
Post by: satoshi_matrix on February 10, 2009, 02:28:10 pm
Just a quick question for those of you who might have a modded Xbox 180. Can you install two dashboards? I've got the latest XBMC set as my default dashboard upon loadup, but I want to be able to use UnleashX when I need to move files and read .txt files. Can this be done by installing the UnleashX dash to a partition such as E:/? I just want to make sure that Unleash X doesnt override XMBC and become the default dash. Well, here's hoiping someone here will be able to let me know and the steps to do it. I'll probably be unsing the almighty Auto Installer DX as per usual, but any tips could be nice. BTW, my 'box is chipped.

Yes. Just save it to the HDD as you would a game and load as you would a game.

Also, rename ux's xbe to default.xbe

Actually, most of them I do! I've even imported some Japan only Xbox games like Shikigami no Shiro 1 that came with a really cool mini artbook. Xbox games are cheap now and most can be found on ebay for $10 or less, sometimes even new.

Manuel, if you're interested in a pretty unusual SHMUP, Shikigami no Shiro and its sequels' kanji are 式神の城.

This list isn't even half of my total Xbox collection, just what I've put on my harddrive. When/if I install a larger hardrive, I hope to put my entire collection on it.

The Harddrive makes for convince as you:

1. you don't have to go find the disc that you want to play. Its like searching up a ROM in an emulator.
2. you don't have to worry about dirty/scratched discs
3. you don't have to worry about wear on the dvd drive
4. you don't have to wait as long in loading sequences

FamicomFreak: My xbox has a modchip installed meaning I had to open it and get into its guts and all that, but the Xbox is one of the only systems out there that can also be softmodded, meaning that you can "pimp it out" as you put it without ever opening it at all. A softmodded Xbox can read burnt game discs, play DVDs without the dongle & DVD remote, access emulators, homebrew, media centres and more. You can do whatever you want with your stock 8GB harddrive.

You need several things to do it, however:

-Someone who has a softmodded xbox and a memory card and is willing to help you out.

OR

All told, around $30ish. You need:

-Copy of Splinter Cell Stealth Action Redefined, MechAssult, or 007 Agent Under Fire. Chances are you already own at least one of these. If not, go buy one of them. I recommend Splinter Cell, but go with whatever you can find for the cheapest. I found Splinter Cell for $4. Make sure that they are original copies though, not the player's choice or whatever the re-releases are called.

Reason: there is an exploit in the way this game's save data is read by the system to allow unsigned code to piggyback it.

-8MB Action Replay Memory card. These are sort of rare to find these days, so you'll probably have to pay the $20 or so on ebay for it. And don't buy a used one.....you need the PC software too!

Reason: Action replay allows you to transfer Xbox game saves first from your computer to the memory card, and then the memory card to the xbox. There are hacked save files which work as exploits for the code for the games I mentioned

-Make sure your xbox dashboard version is the last one M$ made for the xbox. All you have to do to get it is have used Xbox Live on it at one point in time. If that was never the case, then you just simply need to have played any Xbox game made after 2004 on your system. Halo 2, Call of Duty 2, whatever. They all have a file embedded into the disc that updated the Microsoft dashboard.

Reason: the M$ dashboard is a failsafe incase something goes wrong. If all else fails, as long as the M$ dashboard is fine, you can still use your Xbox like you could before.

After you've got everything, you simply find the save exploit for the game you have through google, put it on your action replay, put it on your xbox and then google a little something called "Auto Installer Deluxe". Burn this to a disc and follow the onscreen instructions.

One other thing to MaxXimus: I've also modded the system's player 1 controller port to give a secondary power button. Unlike the Gamecube, the Xbox doesn't have a reset button. To sort of rectify this, I've hijacked the system's power on/off button command and routed it through the yellow wire of the controller (used for lightguns and steering wheels only) to a push button I've installed in one of the memory card slots on the controller. This lets me power on and shut down the Xbox via the controller whenever I want without having to touch the system itself at all! I've done this for both of my Controller S controllers, and might do it to the F controller someday, but that thing is so terribly designed I can't imagine adding something to make it somewhat decent  :D

Nice.

If it was possible I'd also like to have my games on HDD. Much better loading times.

I haven't been into Shmups since Quarth... and that isn't even a real one.  :D From time to time I do enjoy a round of Galaga or R-Type, though.

Actually systems like the PSP and wii are soft moddable too.

As for my setup

XBOX 1.0
160GB HDD
Xecuter 2.6CE chip
USB ports in control 3 and 4 slot (plugged in, can be removed)
Running Universal Interface X as my default dash (looks close to the stock dash)

I heard and read the new PSP-3000 hasn't been hacked yet, so I'm out of luck.  :-\

Just give it time. Most of the work is already done.

Datel actually made a Pandora, but Sony pressed them not to release it. The thing is there, but for now it doesn't look good.

I hope they find a way until March 5. That's when the blue PSP my wife preordered is released.

I know that the Xbox can be modded to support USB, but I've never seen any reason to do it. Can you explain why you've done this?

I'd assume that since 180 is half of 360

Well an 'X' is just vertical angles, opposite angles are congruent. Each angle is supplementarywith it's adjacent angle, meaning that form a 180' angle.

So we are talking about "half of an X"box.

Half the console=half the fun ::)

I always wonder how MS will name their next console.
Everybody comes up with 720, but that sounds like crap and isn't original any more (like 360 was). XBox 3 maybe? XXX Box? ... Oh, that would be something totally different. :D

I still have my XBox in Germany.
Maybe I should have it sent to me and mod it a bit.

I also have them LOL! ;D The Pocket Bikes one is definetly the best. You get a full game and 3 free months of xbox live for around 5$ so you can't really complain and say these games were crappy. :P
