Title: Do you wear glasses?
Post by: 133MHz on February 20, 2009, 05:41:56 pm
It seems that many of us wear glasses. Maybe we can find a correlation between Famicom and eyesight? :P

I wear glasses since I was about 7 years old. I have myopia and astigmatism and my vision is considerably worse on my right eye.

Glasses.  Not contacts.  Raise your hand if you don't like the idea of sticking tiny little transparent easy-to-lose things in your eyes.

I've worn glasses for about 3 years now, though I should have gotten them much sooner. Have astigmatism in both eyes. Yes, contacts creep me out.

I don't think Famicom/NES is necessarily the cause of our bad eyesight. Probably more to do with growing up with those nasty old monochrome computer monitors that refreshed so slow you could see the flicker. x_x

I could never use contact lenses...

I don't believe in video monitors deteriorating your vision, and I have read studies backing up my belief.

My nearsightedness is caused by genetic factors. One advantage is that my close-up vision is excellent, and that's a huge advantage when doing stuff like electronics ;D

*raises hand... sort of...*

I've never tried contact lenses, and I don't like the idea too much (I'm very careless - I'd probably lose them or give myself an eye infection) but I'd like to get rid of my glasses.

Laser eye surgery gives me the creeps, not to mention expensive.

I don't think I could do contacts.  My girlfriend uses contacts, though, so I've gotten a bit better with the concept of people poking their own eyes.  I used to freak out a little whenever someone used eyedrops :-[

Oh yeah... forgot about that aspect.
I can barely use eyedrops by myself. It creeps me out and I can't control my reflexes :-[

How could they test you to find out how well you could see if you couldn't talk? Also, I wear glasses.

Yeah I'm interested about that too.
I didn't notice I had poor eyesight when I was a kid. My parents noticed it for me because I sat too close to the TV ::)
...and when I finally got my glasses it was like OMG HIGH DEFINITION VIBRANT COLORS AWESOME 3D etc etc ;D

My mom noticed my eyes crossed severely...like way more than a baby's should...
So I guess she took me into an optometrist, and it turned out I was almost legally blind.  Over the years though, my sight has gotten better, and now my glasses aren't nearly as thick :P

Oh that's it.
Did you have some form of strabismus? Had to wear an eye patch?

I haven't asked my mom that much about it.  All I know is that my original glasses were about half an inch thick.
I'd have to ask her about that...but I don't think I did.

I'm near-sighted.  I can see fine up close.  Not as well from a distance.  I actually like the way I look in my glasses.

Mine go well with my scraggly stubble. If I've shaved recently, I don't look as bad without them  :D

Since 1991.  Started off with some really crappy (that I originally thought was "cool") Polo Ralph Lauren frames from TSO, but were these round bug eyed things, and had a lot of time to grow into my face and realize I look better with the rectangular type frames.  Still wouldn't mind rocking the Malcom X specs, but I've never been able to find that particular solid black frame.  I used to hate wearing glasses, now I can imagine myself without them, can't stand still to put anything IN my eyes, so contacts are not an option.

'sides... being four eyed has long lost it's stigma apparently, and even dudes like chicks who wear the nerdy glasses and stuff, (especially the Lisa Loeb style), and is probably why whole fetish/porn sites have evolved around such things.  Back when I started wearing glasses, it was kind of shitty.  Oh well... The more things change.

Yessir that's the frames I'm talkin' bout alright.  Never could
find a distributor who carried them, usually places tried to sell
me the "Drew Carey" type frames, and I'm always like:

Nope, I'm talking about the Malcom X specs/frames!

You sir are the hero of today.

Yep, I wear 'em. Never want to bother with contacts. I am also notorious for my BADDDD reflexes, so it's near impossible for me to get eyedrops in my eyes on the first try. Arghhhh, sometimes I think they should really make an easier way to do some of this crap.

I've got glasses, too. The thought of putting clear covers onto my eyes creeps me out. The thought of cutting my eyes open to correct the problems just about makes me faint.

Ugghhh. Yeah, I totally agree JC. I just can't stand thinking about some things, like eye surgery, drilling holes in teeth, and I especially hate the thought of popping vessels. Eugh! No thank you.
