Title: Super Famicom (system) Question?
Post by: Agent X on March 20, 2009, 01:53:33 pm
I recently purchased an SFC system, I seem to remember the power light being lit up "Green" whenever the system was ON, though I might be mistaken.  I've noticed that whenever I have my new/old SFC powered on, the light is RED.  Is it supposed to be red or green?  I'm praying it's not an indicator that it's about to go kaput... I just got this thing and am having too much fun with it.  Though I have also noticed that certain games once slotted, there's like a 4 or 5 second delay before the actual game comes on.  I always remembered games being ON more or less instantaneously once the power was on.

Any help on this is appreciated.

THANKS! ^_^

The console you remembered may have been modded? :o

All regular SFCs have red lights

If you say "Red" is normal then I'm good.  I might be confusing surge protectors that glow "green" when things are okay and red when something is wrong or not grounded properly.  Just wanted to make sure nothing was wrong with my recent purchase is all.  Thanks for the response.

My SFC has a red light and takes a few seconds for the game to start, too. I guess that's normal.  :P

That's good to know too ericj, concerning the "pause/delay" in loading up the respective game upon power up.  I guess it's the plain old contact points not properly in thing as usual.  Strangely enough, I never had the problem I did with 8-BIT FAMICOM games on the Super Fami or Mega Drive, where one would have to blow on the cart and things of that nature.  Just got me in another shipment of SFC games that I traded a guy some Mega Drive carts for...  Having a blast with this Hudson Soft action/hack 'n slash Shinobi-esque game called HAGANE at the moment.

I have two SFCs.  Both have red LEDS

SFCs were made many years before colour changing LEDS were common

and if the contacts were faulty then nothing would be loading at all.  Blowing the cartridge helps nothing with the NES.  The NES not working has to do with the ZIF system inside the NES when you press the game down.  The pins on it get bent and stop connecting properly.  The reason sfc and megadrive don't have this problem is because they're top loaders and don't use a ZIF system.  My neo geo loads horizontally and never has a cartridge problem.  And it's pretty darn old.  This's again because the neo geo doesn't use the stupid zero insertion force system.  So to fix that problem with the NES you need to either buy a top loader NES or replace/unbend the ZIF pins.  If you ask anyone who owns a famicom they'll tell you that the famicom doesn't suffer from that problem.  Again this's because the famicom is a top loader.
