I was wondering, does anybody play any current PC games? I like playing some every now and then. Lately I've been playing Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead, Call of Duty 5, and Far Cry 2, among others.
I suck at Counter-Strike and Quake, which is what a lot of people play. My excuse? I grew up on consoles and only played educational games on the computer as a kid, so I never played those games while they were new. (And age restrictions) I built my computer in January and it's pretty good, so I've been playing mostly recent games.
I play Halo, Guitar Hero, and Spore.
quake 4 is hard for me online. I would probably do better if I had a better machine and connection. I also play doom 3 online a lot; though not as much as I used to. Since I got a ps3, I've been doing all my online fps gaming on it. I do have a killer mouse/keyboard combo on my pc: the Razer Copperhead and Tarantula! Ya, who wants to get fragged. lol, j/k. :D
The last time I did a lot of computer gaming, it was on an Apple one with eight inch floppies.
Ah, the good old days, when floppy disks were actually floppy...
I much prefer console gaming. All the hardware is uniform, so your game is guaranteed to work.
Agreed. I never got into PC gaming even when I was a PC user. Too much work, too much money. I much prefer to just put the game in and have it run.

That's hardcore. The twelfth game will be released in August of this year. All of this is made by one man, the music, coding, graphics, everything.
Yo, I'm primarily a PC gamer. Lately I've been fussing around with Deus Ex but I try to get a good game of TF2 in every now and again.
I once bought Crazy Machines 2. It didn't work. :(
PC gaming isn't really that difficult, hardware-wise. Just buy good stuff that will last you a while. Most games aren't really that hardware-intensive, unless you want really good results. You can build a decent computer for a decent price, and not only will you have a platform for gaming, but for media, Internet, apps, work, etc...
Has anyone else seen the difference between Left 4 Dead on the 360 and L4D on the PC (all high settings)? The 360 version looks like a PS1 game. :D
Some of us don't have the money, space, patience, skills, or time to build or buy a computer.
That's understandable. In February of last year I went to a LAN party randomly, not knowing much about computers or the world of PC gaming... at all. I read up on stuff for the rest of the year and eventually learned what I need and how to put it all together. You'd be surprised at how easy it is to put together a computer, but there are some pretty nerve-wracking moments. All in all I'm glad I did, even though it did put me back quite a sum of money. ::) I needed a new computer anyway.
Also, PCs become obsolete surprisingly quickly. Game consoles last longer.
That is the reason why I don't game on the PC.
Most games won't run properly on my machine anyways. :D I don't want to mess with installs, settings and other tedious stuff. I like to "put game in, swicth machine on, play".
The PC has its advantages and so does a console. I'm not particular to either over another, but I do use my computer more. I just find it to be very versatile.
I built a new gaming PC recently but to tell the truth, I only really use it to play Stalker and of course Valve's games. All the good games come out on consoles these days anyway and I much prefer being able to play with my friends over Xbox Live than having more anti-aliasing and all that stuff.

They both become obsolete at the same time, imo. The ps3 is using a grafx card that is 2 or 3 generations old and can be had new for $100 or less. Don't get me started on the wii's grafx chip, hehe. But anyways, the reason we all prefer console gaming over pc gaming is the games. Console games are just more fun. However, it does seem that the ps3 and xbox are becoming pc gaming machines as they have a lot of the same games as the pc; mainly fps to boot.
I still play abe's oddysee on pc its a great platformer but it's about 8 years old and i got given a copy of far cry 2 as a gift played it once and will never play it again,i hope one day they stop trying to make these photo realisim games and start making platformers again i think they have forgotten that games are supposed to be fun,pc gaming is very boring nowdays its like watching a movie not playing a game.
I think there are tons of great PC games (including exclusives), but there are also great console games. For example, I only play certain genres on certain platforms, if I have a choice. (i.e., FPS on PC, or Platforming, Racing, or Fighting on a console). It usually depends on the price, control layout (mouse+keyboard vs. gamepad), and overall content differences.
You'll find that most PC game prices drop relatively quickly, and are usually $10 less than their console counterparts. But, it's all preference.

That is a very misleading statement. Yeah, your computer's hardware will become obsolete very quickly and really your consoles are going to become obsolete at the very same rate. Just because your computer is obsolete does not mean it won't be able to run the games you want to play.
My computer has been obsolete for a couple years now and I can still play whatever the PC game developers throw at me on nearly-max settings. Crysis? Pssh, no problem... max settings all the way and feeling fine!
And you don't need to break the bank to make a good computer either. With some savvy purchasing practices and a bit of research you can build a rig that is cost-effective and well-balanced and you can bet that it is going to last you just as long as any console. But it takes time and most people are not willing to put that kind of time into any purchase no matter what it is.
Of course it's also much easier for me because I've been doing it for a while. For a first-timer it is daunting and tough to approach but it's really not that difficult once you get down to it.

100% Agree with you. Most games I play on my PC are fps games, but to be honest, I dont play fps games on consoles for the fact that the controls suck, turning and looking around is much easier with a mouse then a joystick.
Although, I will say outside of FPS games a PC still has little to none games i'd be really interested in. Not to mention I'm not into the MMO or RTS scene.
Oh well, both have plus and minuses, but whatever you choose is all up to you and what you want, and nobody can tell you otherwise. ;)
Actually, FPS's on the Wii work really well. You literally point at the screen and shoot. Want proof? Play Medal of Honor: Heroes 2.

But the Wii lacks a plethora of great FPS's, unlike other platforms that have games from Valve, id, and not to mention Unreal Tournament.
Maybe The Conduit will be good!

I remember when I first heard about it. I think it looks promising, but I wonder if they're including online deathmatches.
If I remember correctly, yes, it will have online deathmatch. Even better, it won't use Nintendo friends codes!
The Conduit will also use WiiSpeak.
I was never any good at all at FPS's. I wouldn't consider myself a PC gamer, but I have found much enjoyment in Age of Empires II and Colossal Cave Adventure. Anyone heard of the latter? It's a true hacker's paradise. As for ageing, consoles and PCs proceed at about the same rate.

Honestly, yeah it is. Building stuff and just messing around is just fun. Depending on what games you have you can use the models/objects/weapons from the games and there is always someone making something for GMod. Heck, you can make some amazing photos/videos from it by just posing characters and messing with their faces and such. It's really fun when you have more then 2-3 people.
TL;DR The stuff in GMod that you can make is really limitless.

I wouldnt really know, I dont own a Wii. But honestly, I really dont have a need for one right now. My PC, famicom, and 360 are all I need right now. All the FPS games I usually want to play are almost always ported to the PC (eventually) and i'll play them when they do. On top of that, the wiimote just infuriates me to no end on its own for being such a gimmick to sell Wii's and just being so...limited to what you can do with it, i guess is the word im looking for.=P
I really don't care about realism considering I play games like Doom, TF2, and Serious Sam.
I'm not praising Wii FPS's for being realistic. I'm praising them for easy control.

For me, I think it's easier using a mouse + keyboard because you don't have gravity slightly tugging at the mouse, and you don't have to worry about improper calibration at times. It's kind of just nitpicking, but it's enough to make me rather play on a PC.
The only Wii FPS's I've played are Medal of Honor Heroes 2 and Metroid Prime 3. I own MP3, and have beat it 100%, so I'm not complaining about impossible controls or anything. It's just a personal preference.
The games should add gravity to the mouse icon, just to make it more realistic.
The controls for mouse/keyboard are TOO GOOD in my opinion. It's too easy to hit the target. Try that with real rifles (running around for hours and not get tired holding your weapon up) and we'll talk again. :D
In one of my classes, we had to build a city, maintain it, and get a population of over 500,000 on SimCity 3000 for a grade! It was so easy! I never thought a game like that would be fun. I'm thinking about getting a copy for my personal computer to see how high I can get it. It's really fun! The news ticker is a nice touch, too :P
Video games? In school? This is madness!
Get Sim City 4 if you can help it. It's a great deal more difficult than Sim City 3000 but overall is a much better game.
My opinion is not wrong and if you disagree with me I will fight you!!!
I've played Sim City 4 on my friend's Ipod Touch. I'm sure the PC version is better, but I liked what I saw when I played it.
I doubt (assume) the iPod version of the game is anything like the computer release.

500,000? is SimCity 4 really that much easier than its ancestors? I've only ever played SimCity, and I find it difficult to reach 300,000...
In SC 3000, I broke the 2,000,000 mark today...in about 45 minutes. When I started today, I was at 950,000. My city is sort of crappy if I do say so myself. I have no idea how it's so popular. It could be just the name of the city or the mayor :P In case you wanna know, the city's name is "The Greatest City Ever Concocted By Man And Then Some" and the mayor's name is...wait for it..."Castro"!
;D

Does anyone know how to enable the cheat console in Halo? All I've got is this
QuoteOpen the properties window of the Halo shortcut and add " -console -devmode" to the end of the target field.
I think I know what it's talking about, but I don't know where to put the command. I tried putting it right after "halo.exe", I tried putting "halo.exe\-console -devmode", but nothing seems to work. I'd appreciate any help. :)
No need for the \ . Also try putting the parameter outside of the quotes and see if that makes any difference.

Make a shortcut to the Halo.exe file, open its Properties (right-click), and add -console -devmode after the shortcut (which should be in quotations).
For example, the field might look like this:
Quote"C:\Program Files\Bungie\Halo\Halo.exe" -console -devmode
That's how it works for several other games I've played, so it probably applies to this scenario.
Tried what was mentioned, got the same error, here's a screen if you want to take a look.
Try shoving the -console -devmode parameters inside the quotes, like this:
"C:\Program Files\Bungie\Halo\Halo.exe -console -devmode"
Same thing happened :(
Alright, so today, I got Prototype, and it's AWESOME.
But there's tons of lag. I have shadows set to low, and I have graphics set medium. I have no idea why this is happening, because my computer is definitely past the requirements for the game. I'm open to any help.
Maybe you need more VRAM? I don't know, I suck at computer stuff like that.
@nintendodork
Do you run some programs in the background ? Maybe that`s the reason.

At the moment I play Hitman 2 on my PC. It`s good. It`s cool to be "the" killer ;D
The only modern game worth playing is S.T.A.L.K.E.R., because just about anything else decent is already on PS3 and/or Xbox 360. To me, all the great PC games have already been made and there has been nothing really worthwhile or exciting that has come out or is coming out for the PC. And besides, most games these days require 2 video cards, dual processors and 8GB RAM just to play it on the lowest setting at 20fps. And they are all pretty looking and shinny but there is no substance behind them. Some of my favorite PC games are Thief I & II, System Shock I & II, Fallout 1 & 2, Call of Cthulhu DCOTE, Monkey Island 1-3, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Arcanum, the Tex Murphy series, Jagged Alliance I & II, the Dark Seed series, Blood and Soliders At War. There are many many others and I can go on forever but I won't. I grew up playing console and PC games and I am good at both; so how is playing console games and excuse to not be good on online games? A lot of people don't do good online because it would only be fair if every player had the same comupter, running at the same specs and config, as well as the same internet connection. But I'm sorry to say that if you need to cheat in Halo how can you play Famicom games which are (on the average) at least 10x harder?

I don't have either of those consoles. The way I see it, I don't need to buy either one in the future either, because I can just have all the good ones on my laptop. It's stupid to pay a bunch of money for the same games on a different system when I can play them my laptop for the same price.

I don't
need to cheat. I've already completed Halo several times on various difficulties. I wanted to cheat just for the fun.
Anyway, I read up on it some more, and some sources said that Windows SP2 is better for it than SP1, which is what I have. Unfortunately, after the 5 hours download from Microsoft's website, the file couldn't be opened. Another option was do turn off HIDs that I don't use. I did that, and it runs almost perfectly with graphics on high. If I do end up successfully downloading SP2, then the game should run flawlessly. I definitely recommend it to anyone who likes PC gaming. :)

Sorry! I didn't mean it as an insult so don't take it the wrong way. On the other hand, I have SP2 and have never had a problem with Halo, but SP2 has caused many problems for other games that I have tried to play so be wary. Good luck!
I have SP2 and haven't had problems with any games because of it. Then again, I play more modern games (Source games, for example) that are built for it.
