I would start by adding the famicom and FDS translations from this site, if anyone didn't know of it.  He's the guy that translated Cave Story:

http://agtp.romhack.net/project.php?id=dezaemon

Yes, I think it's a great idea by the way, as I don't know of a comprehensive list and it would be really great to have one, so long as it mentions where to find them.  I imagine there are tons on TRHDB but many are incomplete:

I'll start right now.  Feel free to contribute.  The list will be in the first post, and the staff has my permission to edit the first post to add fan translations.

Metroid can't be on the list, because it was officially released in America at some point, as for the others, I don't know :P

Also,  I don't think that Rockman 2 or Cosmo Genesis should be in there,  because Rockman 2 was more of a personal project that the translator did to prove himself.  If you went to other translation sites, you'd probably find a bunch of those, and Cosmo Genesis is the translator's own error.

MOTHER was officially translated.  However, the ROM was released by a fan translation group.  Since they didn't actually translate the game, it's not on the list.

They're both translations into English, therefore they're on the list.  Also, the FDS version of Metroid is better because of the save feature, so that version was translated.

For Mother, I'll use your own words against you :P  It's a translation into English.  Someone had to translate it, even if they didn't release it, it was still eventually released by someone else.

Right, but this thread is FAN translations.  MOTHER was translated by Nintendo, which is NOT a fan group.  The game still could've been officially released stateside in the early 90's by Nintendo, and not by a bunch of hacker guys who liked the Japanese version.

This is really the way to go.  It's the most complete list (and I believe you can filter the list based on project status).  The site is down right now because their host's VPS software was hacked.  The admin there said the site should be back in (in some capacity) today or tomorrow.

But still, I started the list here so I may as well complete it.

This site is all about Famicom.  This list is about Famicom.  Theoretically, there is no reason for thread to be deleted or locked.

I meant you can get all of the games from there and call it a done deal..for now.  Instead of waiting for our input, you could go there and almost completely finish the list.

I think the fan translation vs 1st party translation is a good point though, as most 1st party translations are INFERIOR to fan translations.

Localisation by a publisher is not just about translation, it's about adaptation.  Many things get changed, depending on how text heavy the games are.  It's now gotten to the point where European English translations are different to the North American states versions in some cases, so I think it's absolutely fin to count Rockman 2 and Metroid as fan translations if they are different enough, regardless of whether there is a US version or not.

Personally I like playing Rockman 2 in English rather than Megaman 2, it just feels more 'famicom' to me.

Another good example is the fan translation of Rockman and Forte, it's quite different to the Capcom translation.

Ah, right.  Well, OK, but I need to do that on a computer, since I can't copypaste on a Wii.  And the list will always be expanding, too.

I really wish Castlevania 2 for the FDS was translated to English...

I've heard the English translation is pretty accurate.  That is, the dialog in the game didn't make much sense in Japanese, either.

If you are talking about the Famicom DIsk System version of the game, that doesn't appear to have an English translated release.

I meant Simon's Quest for the NES.  It's the same game, but translated into English.

Yea but I was hoping there would be an english translated version of the FDS game. The FDS game supports saving which is a huge advantage over having to input a mile long password.

Necrobump  :gamer:

Anyone know if there is an English translation patch for either of the Zelda FDS games?
