I bought a whole lot of disks recently, but I would really like to know (since most of my disks have official labels on them) if there exists a game list that includes the serial number (the serial numbers help since many games have Japanese only writing). The list on wikipedia is really incomplete.
Also, is there some sort of archive somewhere that has scans of the jewel case art?
thanks
Our game list has the IDs for many of the FDS games:

Thanks. How about scans of the jewel case art or labels on the disks themselves?
http://www.thecoverproject.net has some FDS scans.

Oh wow, thanks. I am surprised there aren't many more. Well, I am going to contribute my own since I have a lot of originals.
I tried printing a few FDS scans (I followed the printing guide and used Paint.NET), but the resulting print takes up the whole page. How do I get it to print the FDS cover with the correct size? Does anyone know the right dimensions for an FDS cover?
As you say you have a lot of originals I'd say just measure one and use the values when you print the covers.
I use paint shop, and there I can specify the size I want it to print.
If you scan them at 300dpi and print them without selecting any fancy options (like those given by the Photo Printing Wizard included in Windows XP) it should come out at the right size.
In conclusion, don't select any zoom of fit options when printing or even when editing. Keep it the same size all the way through and it should come out perfect :).
Speaking of FDS covers and labels, does anybody here have Ai Senshi Nicol, Electrician or Otocky?
After downloading scans from thecoverproject.com, I decided to insert a scan into word 2007 and it displayed and printed the correct size :)

Scans or spare originals?
Label and disk sleeve scans :).
as far as the scans at thecoverproject.net, I want to submit some of my own, but I am curious as to what software to scan mine at and what DPI. Anyone know?
Software: Whatever you're comfortable with.
Resolution: 300 dpi

how about printing them to the correct size? is there some sort of template to insert a scanned cover into so it will print the correct size?
If you get yourself photoshop, you can set up a quick template and then make sure it prints exactly to size every time.
Measure the inlays yourself, then set up the image size to 300 dpi or adjust the print size as you wish, it's real simple with a proper image suite. You can find photoshop the same way you can find anything else you don't want to pay for, though they do student licenses too.

Seems a bit much to use a program like photoshop (I totally don't know how to use it). I was hoping there was some sort of template for FDS labels that would help you print it out right
You don't need a template if you do it right. Scan at 300dpi, crop, adjust the levels a bit and save.
When you print it out using anything but Windows XP Photo Printing Wizard, the cover should come out at the perfect size for FDS.

Yea i scanned @ 300dpi, edited the levels, saved, and printed after importing to word 2007, but the resulting print took nearly the whole page.
Do not import to Word 2007! Treat the image as-is, don't use Word or Windows XP Photo Printing Wizard and it should come out at the right size.
I scanned with ACDsee 7 @ 300dpi and printed but now the print is too small.
What I would really like is a template that adheres to the FDS cover's exact dimension, and you can insert your JPEG and it will automatically fit inside that template (it would help if the template had lines around it for easy cutting).
*edit*
I found out that the above can be done with Word 2007. You insert the FDS cover as a picture, right click and choose size. Height is 5.66" and Width is 3.14". If you go to Picture Border, you can choose a border around the cover, so it's easier to cut it out (since most covers have white around the edges). You can fit two covers on one page.
Thanks to all that helped!
Uso Photoshop to scan and print, it knows what to do, seriosly
I used Paintshop in the past and it aways printed my images a little smaller

Thanks for the tip. Do you have a recomendation of what kind of paper to use for printing FDS covers? Plain paper with my color laser printer looks good, but the paper is too flimsy.
Use a semi-gloss cardboard paper, youll be surprised with the results ;)
