Title: Requesting advice on handheld famis
Post by: takedowned on October 04, 2009, 09:44:08 am
I want to buy a handheld famicom, but the problem is,  I don't have any original famicom games. I only have pirate 60pin games like those: http://cah4e3.shedevr.org.ru/pirates/IMG_0544_resize.jpg ,so I'm not sure if a Game Axe or a PokeFami would play them. Soo..If any of you have expirience with pirate carts on handheld famis, tell me which is the best one for my case?

They are famicom games, any porta-fami would work. Even if they are pirate.
I recommend the Game Theory Admiral. It's pretty tiny.

Thanks, i looked it up, it seems cool enough, having the cartridge stick out like that kinda bothers me but i guess i'll get used to it.
Only i can't find a place where i can order one of those.

There's a cool one that hooks up to a GBA SP, i forgot what it was called but it's cool, i might buy it from my local game store, plus it comes with an AV cable. Is 50$ a good price on this?

Uhhhh, you mean like the flash card thing they had for homebrew GBA games?
But anyway, I don't have a GBA,so it's no use,i need a separate console like a Pokefami or something...
If anyone's willing to sell that'd be awesome ;]

Yes, in theory the cart should work without problems in handheld machines.

As someone who previously owned a GameAxe before it got lost in the mail, I can tell you that they are not the best. In fact the first one I bought had a broken screen. Barely a handheld as the thing is even bigger than a GameGear (and that wasn't about to fit in anyone's pocket) Also, its a NOAC so you get those wrong sound effects and incompatibility with some games.

As for the FamiEight, the device that attaches to a GBA SP, I actually wrote a review for us here on Famicom World a few years back:

http://www.famicomworld.com/Pirated/Handy_FamiEight.htm

Skip the GameAxe and get the FamiEight only if its $20ish. Its not a good Famiclone but it is a novel portable TV.

If you really want to experience Famicom gaming on the go, shell out the money for a modded PSP, DS flashcart or Wiz, the newest version of the GP32X.

IIRC, the GameAxe was one of the few clones that didn't use the NOAC.

Maybe not the same one as in most Famiclones, but the audi effects in Mario 1, Megaman 2 etc are that typical NOAC crap. Also it wont play Castlevania 3. Also, the screen is blurry which is a fact that nobody seems to have mentioned. I dont have mine anymore, and I can't say I miss it. I'd say skip it in favor of the FamiEight. At least with that its a Famiclone that you can use to play a real Famicom on! XD

I think takedowned just vanished. I hate it when new members show up, just to solve their problem, then leave.

Stuff like that happens all the time and I think it's legit. There are people who just need an answer and if they get it they leave. Maybe because they aren't interested in forum activity very much.

Eh. Oh well, though it'd be nice to get some permanent members sometime.

Of course that's the best thing that could happen.
Good permanent members are a great enrichment for the boards.

Does anybody here have an FC Mobile? I'm considering buying the Chinese version called the SB-Z12 since that takes FC carts and all my carts are FC. I know the controls are reversed but besides that any other problems with compatibility?

I've held one and it feels really cheap. I wouldn't trust its durability. Again, buy a PSP and get it modded to run portable Famicom games. You'll be much happier that way.

Also there are a few FC emulators for DS. NesDS works well.
