Title: csv export / ability to query
Post by: crade on October 30, 2009, 11:02:08 am
I'm not sure how easy this would be,
but I would find it really handy if it were possible to dump the site's lists (and maybe some of the data collumns as well) to csv or excel.
That way, I could easily make my own checklist for all the games not released in North America or by a particular publisher, etc.  I know all the data is there to get a nice checklist of say famicom exclusive releases by konami, but I feel like I can't get at it currently.

would something like this be possible?

You should be able to copy/paste it.

Copy the section of the table that you want to the clipboard.  Paste that into a new notepad document (this step gets the data into a list of tab-separated values).  Copy all of the text from the notepad document into an Excel document and you should be good to go.

This method works on just about any html table, not just FW.

We'd prefer that you not publish large portions of the gamelist data elsewhere, though.

Thank you for your reply and advice.

This does work well,

I am not planning on rereleasing your data or anything, I am just trying to collect famicom exclusive titles for particular publishers.

I suppose the trouble I am having is that the "Related Releases" info seems to only be available if you click on an individual game.  Is there a way to get a list of famicom exclusive carts?

Thanks again!

Nope, that's not possible.  Even if I whipped up a query for that, it would depend on us knowing all of the NES titles for FC games released outside of Japan.  While we do strive to gather all of those titles at some point, we're not there now.

Basically, any query that I could make will have a bunch of false positives due to a lack of data.  Not much I can do for you, sorry.

Ok,
thanks, this site is a great resource for me.
