What are everyone's thoughts? Interested?
Looks horrible. The graphics just feel cheap, like they didn't care. It just doesn't look appealing, too plain of an atmosphere. Why can't they just keep it 2d graphics, that'd look fine. All remakes of old siderscollers have to be 3d, it's ridiculous. They oughtta realize by now that just ruins the series completely. Look at Castlevania :(
The new Sparkster game is another good example of taking something from the past and making it 3d puke.
Eh. Looks mediocre. Like Bramsworth said, it looks like they just slapped some stuff in there like they just didn't care.
I think 3D can easily look good and there's no excuse for it not to, though I prefer 2D jobs like the new Boy and his Blob.
Not sure about gameplay on this one yet and I appreciate it is early but look at the sky for one, it does hint of a lack of effort, or worse - understanding.
I haven't seen any gameplay footage yet, but the screenshots I've seen are way too dark. Bonk's world should be bright, colorful, and zany, not brown and generic.
Love those copy and pasted huts.
I'd prefer nice hand-drawn graphics.
If the game itself is good, I don't care about graphics, though. I'm interested.

Yeah, I noticed that right off the bat!
Very mediocre indeed. Looks like it's a simple platformer with bonk stamped on it to help it sell....
Is Bonk known enough these days to help sales?
Keep in mind, it in beta stages

That's what worries me - if it is beta, it won't change much past this. The earlier stages are where you see the changes, beta's basically fixing bugs :(
Looking at it again it reminds me a bit of such generic games you can sometimes find in Kellogg's cereal boxes.

I expect that only a very small percent of people that own a Wii in the US have any idea what Bonk is. So the answer should be no. Even for people that own the other systems Bonk is on, it seems to mostly be known by collectors.
That's what I thought.
Same situation in Germany and Japan as far as I can say.
I thought he was more well known in Japan (as PC-Genjin), since the PC-Engine sold a lot better there than anywhere else.
Anyway, even though he's not well known, he's still a pretty good IP. If it means more 2d platformers, I'm all for it.
Not many young kids know PC Genjin these days.
They're all Mario and stuff.

I don't think the FC version is any more colorful. :P
FC Gengin doesn't really count. The sprites, at the very least, were always very colorful and cartoonish.
Besides we don't work with palette limitations anymore. Even if the PCE version was as dull as the FC, Bonk's world should still be vibrant in terms of the setting right?
I know. The creators must be using the FC version as a model or something. It's really similar!
