Title: "Game Engine" famiclone by Cosmo Tech
Post by: MS-DOS4 on December 03, 2009, 04:50:41 pm
Recently got this SFC themed 8 bit pirate and I thought I'd share some pictures.

She'll need a new pin connector, and I need to work on the composite cables. The picture is kinda bad and the audio has a very loud hum. Would anybody be able to diagnose that problem? I'll get a video of the problem soon.

Maybe that should go in the tech help thread...

Congrats on such a nice find! Discrete Famiclones are always awesome. ;)
The good old UA6527... I presume it's got incorrect audio, but other than that the compatibility is great. :)

As for your picture and sound issues, try resoldering the RCA connectors and replacing the three electrolytic capacitors on the RF modulator board. Dried caps fail to smooth out the power supply ripple, leading to hum bars in the picture and buzzing audio.

(I think this should go in the Famiclones thread)

You can also get a new 60-pin connector for $4 + shipping from tototek.com.

EDIT: I saw one of those on eBay recently. Is that where you got it?

Yes, from ebay. It also came with a bunch of bad games. (Oh joy!) Also, thanks for that link, and the info about dry caps. I'll hopefully get this thing running at 100% again.

Its beautiful, but thats unfortunate that it needs repairs since it was so pricey.

I'd like to see Player 1 controller. The P2 lacks the obvious Start and Select. If possible, could  you take the controller apart and show the insides? The controller is what really interests me.

Here you go.

On controller one, the pad for Green button is going out. The rubber is only attached by a tiny bit now and the button feels very sticky. I wonder if I will even be able to find a replacement for it... Hopefully it's the same size as a SNES or SFC 4 button pad.

Are the buttons all the same size and shape? if so, you should rearrange them to actually reflect the real color layout for the four Super Famicom face buttons. (Green should be where yellow is, blue should be where green is, red should be where blue is, and finally yellow should be where red is.)

Cool looking clone. Hopefully you'll get the kinks worked out of it. I have seen (online) some interesting clones that are Famicom like in appearance. One I would love to get my hands on is a clear cased one that came out of Greece I think. Lots of variety, and if you *really* wanted to, you could probably roll your own case for one. But I am digressing from the topic on hand. Just wanted to compliment on a neat find.
