Title: How does everyone set their games room up?
Post by: cavanor on February 17, 2010, 07:31:08 pm
At the moment I have all my consoles hooked up to the TV,  It has become a snake pit of cables.  What do most people do, keep a few consoles in rotation or all in switchboxes into 1 TV.  Gotta get more shelves as well but that's another story :P

This is what I intend to have in the future. Nice setup.

a recent trip to Toronto netted me a six input AV splitter, so I now have my Xbox 360, Xbox, Wii, PS2, AV Famicom and Saturn hooked up. The last input I rotate with other Sega consoles depending on what I'm in the mood for. I wish I had a working Dreamcast VMU. anyone know what kind of battery that uses?

I've got my PS2 and Wii hooked up to my 42" LCD via component cables.  I have the TV's AV input running to a 3-way splitter in case I want to hook up an older console.

I also have an old TV sitting next to my desktop.  I run an RF adapter to a cable splitter -- one going to the TV and the other going to a capture card on the desktop.  This way I can record the gameplay without hindering my game.  I've been meaning to get a similar setup going with AV/S-Video cables.  I'll usually only have one console hooked up here at a time.  I have the others on display in my living room (or boxed up in a closet).

CR2032.  Buy them in bulk.  It'll be cheaper (per battery) and you'll need them 'cause the VMU eats them like candy.

I have a 28" LCD with a JVC-JX-S777 hooked up to a PS2 and Wii (via component), as well as a SNES, Genesis, and Dreamcast (via S-Video), and my A/V Famicom on composite (scaled up to S-Video thanks to the JX). I also have a Kramer VGA Switch that handles the Dreamcast as well as my backup PC (which serves as an emulator machine).

All of this is housed in an open metal entertainment center which is pretty sturdy and provides convenient to access anything and everything should I need to disconnect something. One of these days, I'm going to pick up another craigslist TV as the old one I used to use was good, but had a broken cable jack.

I have a 57" CRT Pioneer Elite RPTV set up with a 2 input a/v component selector for my NES and Twin Famicom (I use a 10' Monster a/v cable so I can place the Twin on the coffee table to play, thanks to the short controller cables), a 5 input a/v component & s-video selector for my GC, N64, SNES, & Wii. All of the game systems run through my AV receiver and connect to the TV through S-video.

I have a 27" tv with the Famicom/Disk System, SNES, and SFC hooked up with an av splitter. Then a 1983 20 something inch color tv with the atari hooked up. Boxes on top of a cabinet that holds the 27" tv, a cedar chest for my games/accessories, and boxes for manuals. I have 2 chairs and a exercise machine for seating.... it's in the basement. Posters on the back of a ping pong table and on the wall. I'm also running the wii and N64 to the family room 52" wide screen tv.

My ultimate dream game room involves a futon, the 27" tv with the Famicom/Disk System, SNES, NES (vcr style), SFC, N64, GC, GC (japan), XBOX, maybe a 360, a vcr, and maybe a black (or white, not sure) japan Wii all using splitters (4, probably). Then the Philco tv with the 2600, NES 2, Intellivision, and Colecovision using 1 splitter. Cabinets for both tv's and their respective game console. Extensions cables where available for the systems (not sure what I'll do about the famicom). Framed posters (especially the 3 from Club Nintendo) around the room. A desk for either a Windows 95 type computer, or a Commodore 64, or both. Separate drawers for separate console stuff, shelves for box display and for game organization.

That will be quite the work in progress but I'm content with the basement now and will work on it when I retire from teaching or maybe before, who knows.

the dreamcast vmu uses a 'Lithium CR2032'.  really common battery.  same one used in the neogeo pocket color, among many others.

And not just one either, it uses two of them. You can get some name brand batteries off of eBay for a couple of bucks (versus the same price for one at my local Wal-Mart).

One of these days, I need to fix the internal battery in the Dreamcast, which is a totally different story.

20'' Symphonic w/ two composite video splitters that play:
DVD/VCR player
N64 (On top of DVD player)
Xbox 360
Wii (On top of 360)
Famicom/FDS
PS2

I could probably sit the PS2 on top of the Wii, but that'll probably look weird.  The rest of my consoles are at my grandmas in storage.  I don't need anything else hooked up other than these. (Basically everything that predates these.  PS1, GCN, SNES, etc, etc.)

I have a 8-tap A/V multi-box that I ordered from China, also a VCR with a/v output for my RF consoles. And the consoles are all routed into one TV.

First, I have a white stand on my floor which holds the original Famicom, the NES-101 Toploader and the SNES Jr. all in a row, with a little coffee table in front with the Famicom's Hudson expansion port controller, the 2 NES Dogbone controllers and the 2 SNES original controllers on it.

Then at my side wall, you can see a shelve with the Nintendo 64, and below it is the Sega Dreamcast, beside it is the Sega Nomad and Sega Firecore.

Then on a mini table is the Atari Flashback 2, and right next to it is the Commodore 64 DTV.

And last on top of my TV is the Jungle Soft Sport Vii (like what Ashens reviews, same games different color and model number).

Famicom hooked up to a tiny-ass CRT by RF. SFC and Genesis stashed under the TV table in a box. Let's just call me "minimalist". Or poor. :P

I have a 20" Philips CRT with S-video and component inputs, so I have all the inputs I could possibly want for the old stuff. I don't have all my systems hooked up though since all the wires would take up so much space. Right now I just have my Genesis, SNES and PS2 hooked up through S-video, composite and component respectively.

My room atm is tiny, but at least I got space for the essentials.

I need a big room.

And I'm only using 1 out of my 19 gaming systems. ;D
