Do you have an original Famicom, Disk System, or AV Famicom already?

MS-DOS4, you should create a poll so we can vote on it.

I have a an original with blown caps and a fried power regulator, a disk system (don't know if it works since my famicom blew up before I got it) and 3 pirate famicom systems.

Also, poll added.

Are you planning on fixing it? You can get caps & a voltage regulator at Radio Shack for a couple bucks.

EDIT: You could sell your famicom & disk system to help pay for a Twin or PowerPak so you can get both.

I did look at radioshack for the parts, but they sadly don't have them.   I'd have to order online but for some reason I'm putting it off.

If it was me, I'd get a Powerpak. At least with those you can play romhacks on a real console.

Only get a sharp twin famicom if you don't own a famicom already, but I'm assuming you do.

Once again, tied. 8)  I agree with Ericj's suggestion.  You can sell your FDS and Famicom, and then save a little extra money and just get both.

Lol, we are divided exactly.
We want him to get both, so he might?

Twin Famicom for sure. You can buy a PowerPak whenever,  but Twins are a lot rarer. Maybe. >_> Either way, I just think the "cool" factor would make me want the Twin more.

Well, I could fix up my famicom and sell it packaged with the disk, but it`s kind cool to have the original systems, you know?

My vote makes it a tie once again. My vote goes for the Powerpak. Remember with the powerpak you have access almost every NES and Famicom game ever made, including homebrew games, hacks, translations and the Powerpak also supports the FDS mapper and plays it perfectly. To get expansion FDS audio from the Powerpak, you need to add just one or two resistors to your cartridge converter and bingo, all FDS games without ever having to worry about the dreaded error 21.

Also as someone who owns a Yobo Famiclone, a VIDEOGAME Famiclone, a Famicom, an AV Famiom and a Twin Famicom, the best of the bunch by far is the AV Famicom. The Twin is large, boxy, heavy, has wired controllers like the Famicom and uses a set of AV cables like the NES - one for video, the other for mono audio.

Personally, I think the AV Famicom is the better system in nearly all ways. The system is small, uses the same multiout AV cable that the SNES N64 and Gamecube use, the controller is more comfortable, it can use any NES 7pin controller, it still has the EXT port for the lightgun, keyboard, etc and you can probably pick one up for cheaper than a Twin. The system can modded to work with NES zappers and even overclocked, heh.

I thought the PowerPak only supported one-sided disks, not 2-sided? I say get both.  :)

Actually, it's single disks.  As long as you aren't playing Shin Onishigama, or any other multi-disk game, you're fine.

This is true. My twin is an earlier model, black and without turbofire, but what I said still stands. the Twin is about the size of a 3DO or Xbox, has 3 foot controller cords like the Famicom (read: very short) and again has the NES style AV ports for connecting mono and video to mono and video. The AV Famicom uses the same multiout port that the SNES N64 and Gamecube use.

Remember that the AV Famicom is also cheaper and has the NES 7pin connector for both controllers. That means you can use any NES turbo fire controllers and plus like all Famicoms it has the EXT port for accessories and other controllers.

If you really want turbo fire, I would suggest picking up a Hudson Joycard. The controller is the same size and shape as the original wired Famicom controller but has turbo fire switches for both A and B. It's a great little controller.  It has a DB15 cord that you can modify it with any length NES cord if you want to. I did.

Honestly, between a Powerpak  and a Twin, I would suggest getting a PowerPak and then getting an AV Famicom.

Old Japanese commerical for the Joycard controller I mentioned.

I vote for the Twin Famicom, simply because it's collectible.

Collectible vs useful/practical. Your choice Rogles.

I'm going to buy both hopefully! I'd get a AV famicom, but I can't seem to locate one at the moment. I'll defiantly save that one for later.
