CRAP NUGGETS!!!!
I have a few wii points cards somewhere in my garage in one of the millions of boxes that I still haven't unpacked since I move here more than 6 months ago... I looked for them for a few minutes when rebirth came out. I've looked for them because I wanted to play a number of dsiware games. But now I'm going to have to tear apart the garage!
I've heard this is the ultimate old school Castlevania experience. So I expect castlevania III style instead of Syphony of the Night style. It's been on my buy list for a while. But I really appreciate the VC saving me $100 bucks. Yeah, I know there's already a psp version--one of the reasons I almost didn't sell my psp. And this one isn't localized like the psp one.
But I'm still very happy. May have to break down and buy some more will points.
The first thing I noticed when I played it was how little work was done on Symphony of the Night (graphically at least).
It is indeed one of the best Castlevania games, though I don't know which I'd rate as my personal favorite.
When is this supposed to be coming to North America on the VC?
EDIT: Did this just come out today??
EDIT2: Holy crap...it did just come out!! Nice! ;D
michael, do you have a PSP? If you didn't know, Castlervania Rondo of Blood was remade for the PSP two years ago under the title Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles. The PSP game is actually a collection of three games:
The original PCE-CD Akumajou Dracula Chi no Rondo - This is more than a straight up port. Konami has completely translated the game and given it new English voice samples. Otherwise, its exactly the same as the PCE CD original.
the PSP 2.5D Enhanced Rondo of Blood - the main draw, its the original game but with fantastic graphics, newly remixed songs and classic gameplay.
Castlevania Symphony of the Night - a port of the PS1 classic that's vastly superior to the original because Konami in all their wisdom chose to re-do all the cutscenes and voice acting. Wonder what a man is no longer, for he isn't a miserable pile of secrets.
Also you can find it used for around $15. The package is worth it for portable SotN alone I think.
Yeah, I know, but I sold my psp long ago. And I'd really rather play it on my big screen with my super famicom classic controller. :)

I was about to say that you can connect a PSP to a TV but fair point on the SFC classic controller. That thing is great.
I eventually gave up on waiting for this to come out, Twilight Hacked my console, and found a universal .wad file. Now that it's finally come out, I realise I really ought to pay for the software. In any case, this and SOTN are two of my very, very favourite games. The difficulty, gameplay, graphics, and audio are incredible.
I love the game, but Rondo is pretty brutal. With Maria your attacks are more effective and your faster and such, but you take so much damage it's not worth using her, and Richter is too stiff to control.
I love the game, but I wish the Metroidvania controls would put back in this game.
Hey speaking of recent Wii Castlevania titles, have you guys tried The Adventure Rebirth? I've heard conflicting things that its a remake of the '89 Gameboy title and that it isn't.

Indeed Rondo is brutal but not bad once you get used to it, it'd definitely beatable. Richter was definitely harder for me only because I'm good at not taking hits, especially with Maria's agility.
It would be nice to play Richter like his SotN iteration but that might make the game too easy.
Adventure Rebirth is sort of a remake of the original Castlevania Adventure. Lots of modern features (like stairs) were added and it does follow the story of Adventure, I think. It feels a lot like a mash of Bloodlines and CV1 given the remixed music, the overupgrade for the whip and the classic "stiffer" feel to the gameplay.
Embarrassed to admit it, but I loved the Castlevania Adventure on my gameboy years ago. So I do want this remake too. I remember that I found quite a few secret rooms in that game. I wonder if they'll be there in this version? None of them were amazing, but I remember thinking I was so cool that I found them...
Yeah, the secret rooms were cool. "I'm climbing a rope...through the ceiling!"
