In my view Other OS wasn't needed, PS3 is a gaming system, having media player centre/other os is just bonus features. People shouldn't forget that is a gaming console.
Sony removed Other OS due to Geohot is cracking up the console, and he says "I'm not for piracy" lol, if he wasn't he wouldn't crack it. Like he did with the iPhone (JailBrake).
Pity that people now just buy consoles and use illegal software on them.
By Sony's own admission and marketing, the PS3 is absolutely not a gaming system. It is an "entertainment platform". Its gaming abilities are as much a "bonus feature" as it's bluray player, web browser, and Other OS capabilities.
Plus jailbreaking does not equal piracy. It's not even close. Yes, you can jailbrake your iPod, and then use the jailbreak to pirate software, but all companies like Apple and Sony and Nintendo have lots of stupid rules and regulations on what a "quality" product is. When you jailbreak an iPod, you get Cydia (or Rock or Ice), which opens what seems like a portal of new things that you would never be able do if Apple was in complete control of your device. You can get apps that weren't approved by Apple, apps that independent developers have made, and many other things that Apple wouldn't normally allow simply because a group of people in their company say they don't like it.
Yup, I admit, PS3 is more than just a gaming system. This way they attract more costumers.
Since I had a PSP and saw PS3's menu I was very disappointed, it's exactly the same thing, and the controller is like DualShock 2.
They should've created new controllers not re-make.

You mean like that prototype they had?

^ Yes, with a few modifications it would've been actually a good controller.
But there's always 3rd party controllers. ^_^
What modifications? It's exactly the same except with gigantic handles.
They decided to go with the "if it ain't broke" way of thinking in terms of the SIXAXIS, and now, Dualshock 3.
Speaking of 3rd party controllers, it was hilarious when Sony claimed that rumble wouldn't work with SIXAXIS technology. A 3rd party stepped up and showed that rumble wouldn't affect the SIXAXIS at all. I guess they didn't want negative heat from their legal issues stemming from their rumble controllers.
I wonder if Sony is still losing money on each PS3.
As far as PS3 controllers go, I know Mayflash makes an Xbox 360 controller adapter so you can use that controller on the PS3.
Gaming is all about how powerful your console (or computer nowadays) is, leaving no room for game-play.
This is why I like non-current generation consoles and find myself playing them almost always.
Not necessarily. Pay Bayonetta? It's like an action beat em up from the 16 bit era only with a hot witch and crazy WHATS GOING ON locales.

I would if she used her tricks. Cert ;)
Ever since Sony succeeded with PS2 they've been looking to replicate that and had this whole 'dream' of their future device being the single family entertainment hub. It's a Japanese concept built around the swiss army knife effect (because they're so short on space) but things moved one and they predicted wrong in several other ways.
The thing is, now consoles are more powerful and more mainstream they tie into other areas. I'm not talking about Facebook on 360 which is BS but about what we call gaming. Fat office workers mindlessly mining farmville is considered gaming now I reluctantly say but the manufacturers will always be trying to get as many people to buy their kit as possible and publishers will always try and sell to as many people as possible.
Nintendo has done this brilliantly of course but consider that consoles and video games are an entertainment device. They never stopped entertaining, it's just that the market changes with everything else and you adapt if you want to stay in business, simple as that.
Huh, the new PS3 EULA apparently says, "we can upgrade it whenever we want, and there's nothing you can do about it"

^ It's their console, they're allowed to do whatever they want.
It's their product, they have the rights.
They are doing this because the iPhone cracker wants to unlock PS3, and Sony doesn't want to loose profit like it happen with PSP games.
Just how many people will spend millions on a Sony 3D TV?
Bringing 3D TV's put Plasma's already behind. :-\
3D TV = meh. :-\
It's a bad idea for anyone with stereopsis vision problems.

He he, when it's Nintendo, they always make profit.
No matter if they're DS's are small or big they'll make great sales, and Wii too is making.
People bitch about DSi LL (aka DSi XL) being "big" but matter of fact is that it's making great sales, and the peepz who buy it enjoy it.
If I were to buy a DS, I'd go for DSi LL, but since DS 3D is coming I'll wait.
