Title: WTB games. Sell me games. Kthx
Post by: 6072 on April 29, 2010, 09:07:20 pm
Got a fair deal on :

Akumajo Special: Boku Dracula-kun!
Joy Mecha Fight
Cocoron
Holy Diver (thanks, TheClash603!)

Still looking for :

Takahashi Meijin no Bōken Jima IV
Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti
Saiyuuki World
Kart Fighter
Recca
Gimmick
Nekketsu Kakutō Densetsu
Downtown Special: Kunio-kun no Jidaigeki Dayo Zenin Shuugou!
Wai Wai World
and other good games that I don't know about
(I'm new to FC, don't know many; found Pocket Zaurus cheap, turns out I like it, though I don't know wtf is going on as I play it)

so if you can help with any of these, let me know.  Thanks

Can't help you with the mod as I'm new here myself, but here's a thread with some recommendations:
http://www.famicomworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=1456.0

As for me, I'm a big fan of Robocco Wars (simple platformer/shmup that changes genres every level or two),
Summer Carnival '92 - Recca (easily the best and hardest shmup on the Famicom. This one you're better off getting a pirate of, the original cart goes for between 100 and 300 USD),
Yume Penguin Monogatari (a cute game where you try to avoid eating to get skinny and win back your girlfriend who thinks you're too fat),
and Hello Kitty World (a port of Balloon Kid for the Game Boy with Hello Kitty as the main character, a much bigger screen, and big beautiful colorful graphics).

Other Famicom-exclusive games I'd recommend, although I haven't played them as much:

Adventure Island IV (can't remember the Japanese title at the moment. It's more adventure-ish or RPG-lite than the previous games in the series)
Moon Crystal (a cool platformer with nice animation on the main character and fun gameplay, but it's pretty hard)
Holy Diver (sort of Castlevania with a pinch of Rockman and starring... I guess that's supposed to be Ronny James Dio? Anyway, it's fun, and maniacally hard)
Nekketsu Kakutou Densetsu (sort of a proto-Smash Bros. with the Kunio-Kun/River City Ransom characters. Lots of fun with a friend. Shame there doesn't seem to be any four-player mode)

EDIT: D'oh, just realized the name I couldn't remember for Adventure Island IV is right there in your list of games you're interested in! Whoops.

I'm the one who did the audio mod for Jedi's NES. I can actually do two different audio mods for the NES, one is for the FDS or Famicom games with an audio chip, and another is for the PowerPak. I can also combine the mods, which costs a bit more but it gives you both options. The audio mod doesn't actually change the audio, what it does is it mixes external audio sources from the cart slot into the NES. So if you have Castlevania III and you play it on a modded system, it will still sound exactly the same as before since CV III doesn't have external audio like Akumajou Densetsu does.

Somewhere on here, there's a thread for both mods. I've done the mod for FDS and Famicom expansion sound and it's not hard. The hardest part was hacking apart my Gyromite to make the converter.

I see... so how many games would this even be useful for, then?

I have a pirated copy of Splatterhouse on a NES cartridge. Many people on here have decided its pirated, so it must be.

Since the mod I do is also for the PowerPak, this would also benefit any games you put on the PowerPak that have external audio, including FDS games. And of course, my mod can also be used for a real FDS.

How can you tell?  Is the label or cartridge shape/color different from the official release?

Splatterhouse was only released on the Famicom, never on the NES.  Not even in Europe.

Oh, I neglected to notice that it was stated it's on an NES cartridge.

I'm sure I could get something similar for $30 for a reproduction site, but I'd rather have the original
