Title: The Best port of Contra III

Without considering the WII VC's and Nintendo Super System (arcade machine) Contra III, which were basically emulation, there's one port of Contra III that definitely deserves being considered "best" as a port. First, the list of ports:

-Nintendo Super System (not considered)
-Wii, VC (not considered)
-Gameboy
-Gameboy Advance
-NES (pirate/unlicensed game)
-Cell phone, J2ME platform*

* This is the best one. But isn't it a bit ironic? Alright, well, here's a video of the game in action. Keep in mind this: The guy who made the video couldn't get the music to run on the program, but the game DOES have music. And I have to say that it sounds really great. If you're curious, let me know. Also, you might be wondering where the sound effects fare, well, the game doesn't support simultaneous sound+music. But you have to remember one thing: this is the case with just about all cell phone J2ME (Java) games. Of the few that do, they use some trick and the sound effects are usually not J2ME's strong point. Still, the music is very well worth hearing alone. But anyway, consider that this game was made entirely for the J2ME platform, when there were much better ones... yet the conversion turned out excellent. It has just about everything from the original (save for multiplayer, but who does that a lot on a cell phone?)

Very interesting and impressive! I never did tried the one for GBA even though I have it, not sure if it's missing any features but I have a feeling it does, most ports of SNES to GBA games always does. Good stuff!

The Game Boy version wins by a longshot. The only problem I have is the music becasue it wasn't ported very well.

I'm a bit confused. Are you saying the Gameboy port of Contra 3 is better than the SNES version or just that its the best version outside of the SNES version?

Either way, Gunstar Heroes is superior to Contra 3.

I'm sorry, but I'd have to say Contra>GS. It probably has something to do with my playing Contra first, but also with the system-wide release of it...

Anyway, I'm rather surprised that you say the GB Contra 3 has not-good music. You know what? Between the GBA port and GB port, I'd have to say the music in the latter is a nice accomplishment and definitely worth listening to than the result of taking the original tracks and lacing them with crap.

As for not seeing that cell phone game's superiority as a port.... You know, I was referring to both accuracy AND playability, which it has both of (although the GB port definitely has excellent playability and, well, respectable accuracy, the accuracy is not redeeming...).

Contra 3 on the Game Boy is the better version (outside the SNES) because of it's splendor when played on a Super Game Boy.
