Title: Help Translate One Line on the Back of Star Ocean SFC Box
Post by: mobiusclimber on June 09, 2010, 01:06:02 pm
Can anyone help me out? I need to know what the text in red lettering says:

I'm helping someone write out the blurb in English for a repro they're doing. He's got the whole thing translated already, it just needs to be cleaned up grammatically, but this one line doesn't make any sense in his translation.

You'd have to ask Manuel. That's got kanji in it.

Yeah, I definitely don't know what it is beyond giving a machine translation.

あの星の輝きは、心の中に。

LOL, according to Google it means "The stars that shine are in the mind" or words to that affect. he had it translated as "the brightness of the planet is in a man's heart." Neither translation really makes much sense. =p

It doesn't make much sense, but that's about what it means.

The problem is that the sentence is an ellipsis. There's no verb given, so it's problematic to translate.

あの星の輝きmeans "the radiance of this star" (or "these stars"... the number is not visible in Japanese).
心の中にmeans "in the heart" or "in the mind".

No matter how you translate it, it doesn't make much sense. It's just a phrase that's supposed to sound good and meaningful.

Thanks manuel. I'll just have to figure out a good way to put that in English I guess.

By the way, a gal I know already put together a cover for a US Star OCean SNES insert.

you should probably just use her's.

Thanks s_m, do you know if that's a translation or if she just wrote it herself? Parts of it sound similar to the translation I was given to work with, and other parts sound completely different.

Yeah, definitely. Shame the only repro I have that has a box cover on that site is Dragon Quest V. I've been working on making a box for Sweet Home tho and it's coming along nicely. But slowly.

I have 4 Mega Drive repro games and 4 Super Famicom repro games almost paid off and I sent $102 down payment on them to keep on hold. I will have them real soon.  ;D

The only Genesis repro I'd be interested in is Megaman the Wily Wars, the PAL English version.....but in 60 Hz.

There's someone on DigitPress that was making and selling those. I'd love a repro of Monster World IV and King Colossus myself.

Satoshi, I remember FamicomFreak telling me that his friend was making boxed reproductions of those.  I'd drop him a message if I were you just to check it out.

I have a Megaman: The Wily Wars Genesis repro on the way along with Alien Soldier, Bare Knuckle III and Pulsman.  ;D

I also have Doremi Fantasy, King of Demons and Terranigma SNES repros coming along with them.  ;D
