Title: Castlevania 3 US version
Post by: icpizzaboy on September 16, 2010, 04:30:47 pm
I just recently Bought an A.V Famicom (Best Nes ever made)but i cannot get castlevania 3 to work with it.I get music but no picture, after i hit start i get the title screen  the hit start again i get register ur name screen with weird graphics, after i register my name i hit start the intro starts with a screwed up trevor graphic and then it freezes with a black screen no sound or video at this point.

Is there a Decent Nes-Famicom converter that will work with MMC 5 carts out there?
The yobo 1 does not work and i have the converter where the US games face foward all but Castlevania 3 works on this converter.
Is there a possible mod i can do to this converter to finish the pinouts if missing?

Thanks

Now that I think about it, I don't recall ever getting the U.S. Castlevania III working through a converter on any Famicom I've ever owned, and I have three different converters and have a Famicom, Twin, and A/V.

I guess use a real NES. I only have two different converters on hand, the one you have and a Yobo one and I do want to try the third, which just means I need to get it back from a friend.

Getting Akumajo Densetsu isn't a bad idea either.

That black adapter is what I use. It works with the PowerPak, but I'ven't tried it with CV-III (I prefer 'Akumajou Densetsu)'. I think that the 'Family Converter' will work, but I don't remember. I have one on one of my shelves, so I can try it as soon as I *find* where I stored it.

I don't see any reason for MMC5 incompatibility on any legitimate FC hardware. I'll see what happens when I try either converter on my Twin, and then on my C1 (RGB compatibility) and report back.

Kevin Horton would probably know if there is any reason that it won't work, as he knows more about mapper hardware than anybody else of whom I can think.

Castlevania 3 works just fine on my Famicom converter, but again why would you want to play the inferior NES version?

I own five Famicom to NES adapters including the much sought after Honeybee. This is the adapter you want. I don't live in the UK, but I can tell you importing this is well worth it.

It works with everything, has a great build quality and it can even be modded to support expansion audio for the Powerpak.

*edit*

Hmm it would seem its no longer available. Still, fire them an email. Maybe they can still hook you up.

Ok cool, I too have one of robb webb's adapters. Good to know that it works with MMC5 and such. I guess I'll get that back from my buddy and give him one of my Yobo adapters since he could care less about perfect NES compatibility.

I should have tested my friend's bare board converter (which looks like the one that came with a Game Axe) before he sold it. I may buy one here for curiosity's sake and build a case for it if it works well:

Shipping seems to be a bit of a ripoff, but maybe that's just me.

The honey bee or gyromite cart is the best brand of converters :)

Except, that it is the direct opposite of what this is about. ;)

This is about using MMC-5 NES games on a Famicom, not the other way around.

Different music, harder difficulty, and various other differences. Unlike with Rolling Thunder, the sound composer did a nice job recreating the tunes for the standard NES chip.

TC has made it clear that he wants to test compatibility and plans to get Akumajou Densetsu, but even if that wasn't the case, why wouldn't someone want all his games to work with an adapter he buys on the JP system?

Anyway, Famicom has some MMC5 games, so if there's an issue with a MMC5 on a JP system, it's probably with the adapter. Maybe try putting the adapter or game partially in? That's how I get finicky games to work with some of my systems.

Wouldn't that thing technically work if you flipped the board around & modded your own "double-female" connector to go in between? Or solder the pins together? :P Which would be a one-way ordeal? :-\ I don't know.

Actually, Jedi could be right. Try taking a NES 72-pin which and placing it onto the board.
