Final Doom has like 60 some levels and pretty much 2 games.  Plutonia experiment is extremely hard though, lol.

Yeah, I think I'm leaning more towards final doom just because of how little people actually know of it. I like that kind of novelty. And does anyone know if the master levels come with maximum doom?

Yeah, but I read on another forum that maximum doom wasn't included for the steam release. Does anyone know if you need to use DOSbox to run the games?

It depends. You can use dosbox to run them if you'd like, but you can also take the wads (map files) and use them with a modern doom client. id was kind enough to release the source code for the engine, so there are a few different versions. Everything is supported, you can play the game in as high as a resolution as you'd like, and one nice added thing is that these engines also support modern internet and LAN netplay.

The two I have experience with that I can recommend are Zdaemon (http://www.zdaemon.org/ (http://www.zdaemon.org/)) and Scoredoom (http://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=14392 (http://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=14392)). Zdaemon seems more polished, though when you begin the GUI can seem overly geared towards netplay. You can play an excellent single player game with it, though. Scoredoom seems to have more experimental features, like Hexen and Heretic support, and also some gameplay features that the original engine didn't have.

These engines also support, to varying levels, Hexen and Heretic, and definitely support Plutonia and TNT.
