Why is that, someone can please clarify me please?
I don't really care if people like or hate it, I enjoyed the game a lot when I had it, and I want to buy it definitely to own it because didn't accomplish to finish the game due to my schedule.
Games nowadays suck, I mean, they are so short, well at least PS3 games are too damn short for me!
Take GTA IV it's an awesome game but it doesn't have a long story line, before you know the game ends. I was shocked when I saw the ending credits, because I wanted more.
Because it's nothing like the Doom games before it. Also it just sucks as an FPS in general.

Care to elaborate on that? ;)

I found the early Doom's boring and even if it's nothing like the originals, I could care really, it's killing monsters in the dark, and well, it only was released for PC & Xbox.
The game doesn't suck, you do. If you did the homework you'd find the fps that suck and Doom 3 isn't in that list.
People/young people (you) are such whiny bitches, always complaining about this and that, pff..
If you can do better then go ahead! Please.
ooooooookkkkkkkkkkkkk.........
I've never heard anyone critisize DooM 3 or than the fact that that the xbox port has slightly lower res graphics than the PC version. The only other thing I've heard is that it doesn't add anything to the genre, which doesn't matter. And yeah, it doesn't suck.
Love DOOM 3. I'm eagerly awaiting Doom 4!
People might not like it because it's overly dark, although that adds a factor of fear for me.

I'm sorry that I don't have the same opinion as you on Doom 3, but please don't insult me over it. ::) Nowhere in my post did I say that I could make a better game, but there are people who can. I also don't see how my age has anything to do with the topic at hand. If that did have an effect on what I thought, then my post would've been the complete opposite of what I said, and I would have actually agreed with you by saying the older game sucks and the newer game is better just because it's more recent. Don't say there are people who don't agree with me either, because if no one else thought that, this topic wouldn't even exist.
As I recall, the criticisms of Doom 3 were about funny floating heads (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/doom3/images/0/190/), funny upside-down spider heads (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/doom3/images/0/186/), and a general aversion to light fixtures (http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2004/8/11/).
Why do I criticize Doom3 ?
Lack of replayability... basically (despite it was waaaay too dark, I liked it's closed, claustrophobic climax though).
I loved it when it came out! Played by night, headphones on, heartattack imminent :D
But I've played it through just once, and didn't wanted to play it again.
I love Classic Doom 3
The Doom series was meant to be like 1 and 2 respectively, Doom 3 does not even feel like it belongs in the series thought it isn't the that bad of a game.
Well, its not supposed to play like doom 1 or 2. It's doom 3! Anyway, doom 4 is supposed to be more like the originals, so whatever floats your boat I guess.
only thing I've ever heard critisised is the lack of the flashlight on your gun. Insted ayou have to switch between the flashlight and the gun. Also, the original 3 dooms (everyone forgets final doom) are awesome. I love them and play them enough... mostly on xbox with friends and I know 2 people from this site who I've played the dooms on sxbox 360 with before. So the originals are awesome imo
Doom 3 is good but I like the other 3 dooms much more still.
Doom 3 isn't bad. Why you guys hatin'
is this the one where your on Mars and your after a demon?
I rather enjoyed that game. I still need to play the expansion pack.
Loved the title screen/music.
oh and ya me to. Played it in the dark with headphones on. ;D
same thing I did with Resident Evil 4 for the GCN.
VGM out...
ha ha thats true, but ive only played the 3rd one. :p
VGM out...
:O you've never played doom or doom 2? You sir, have not lived.
Beat doom 3 tonight. Epic.
Also I noticed that according to the title screen and box art, its not doom three, but rather doom cubed! Doom times doom times doom!
Craving to play Doom 3 now... I love the final boss.

Sorry, but what kind of failed logic is that? :P By that principle, Doom 2 should have played different than Doom 1.
Either that or you're implying that Doom 3 has gotten a name for itself, metaphorically speaking. And that certainly isn't the case as far as groundbreaking gameplay goes, so...

Thank you! I was just about to point this out. FamicomRetrGamer has the idea backwards (about the age thing).
On that note, I don't think Doom 3 is too bad of a game but it certainly is disappointing to me.
I'm just saying after so many years of using the doom engine in games, they probably thought it was a good idea to take the game in a new direction. Would you rewlly expect the game to play the same as doom and doom 2? And plus, in terms of design, doom 2 does play different ::)
In terms of design, Doom 2 does not play different. It's the same ball game there: hunt keys or find the door and get to the exit. Beat some "boss" enemies along the way.
What? So, they added 1 new gun and like 6 new enemy types. Does that change how the core gameplay (again, look for keys or the right door to the exit)? Absolutely not. Heck, even all the graphics for dynamic objects in the original game are retained. They just added more textures, wall flats, decorations, etc. You might as well just call Doom 2 an expansion pack of Doom 1. Keyword there: EXPANSION PACK. Though, Doom 2 isn't a bad game, really.
No, people were expecting the game (Doom 3) to play at least somewhat like the originals, except it plays a lot less than was hoped for.
You didn't mention the level design, which was a pretty big change in doom 2. And doom 3 still has doom at its core. Replace keys with security access things, and dozens of demons with a few scary ones
What's different about the level design? The overal level design follows the same pattern and idea.
You kiddin? Its a LOT more open than in the original. For some levels, its just a giant square with buildings. I felt kinda clostrophobic in the original.
Ooooh, so the levels seem more "developed". So what?
Using the same level basics, but having "improved" layouts and style does not make it a totally different playing experience. It's still Doom 1 gameplay at its core. That still counts as expansion pack material at best.
Sure, it's more open as you say, but that's merely a variation in level layout. How does that affect the central nature of the game? You still have keyhunting and monster slaughterfests in it.
On a side note, though a little irrelevant, most of the Doom community dislikes the level design of Doom 2 compared to Doom 1.
Im losing focus on why were arguing.
Im just saying that even doom 2 was different from doom, and you shouldnt expect gameplay in doom 3 to be a carbon copy of doom.
Fair enoughbut then Doom 3 should have been different in the same way Doom 2 is to Doom : P Alright, I'm done
I see what you did thar ::)
