Title: Any stores in San Francisco sell Pirate carts?
Post by: Pixie_0 on December 26, 2010, 08:13:52 am
Hey All you San Franciscans and San Fran knowers - i'm going to be in the lovely city at the end of Jan - are there any stores that sell Famicom Cartridges, especially multicarts?

Checked out on google and Kinokuniya Bookstore seems like a possibility, but are there any other definite ones?

Thanks in advance!

:)

I don't think Kinokuniya Bookstore even sells Famicom carts, let alone bootlegs. They are a "chain" that sells legitimate import books, magazines and music. They don't even sell import games to my knowledge (the one in Seattle doesn't anyway). I tried to get their site to load, but no dice so far. However, here's a link to them on Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Books_Kinokuniya

What made you think Kinokuniya would sell games, let alone famicom pirates?  :D Unfortunately as was said above, they're just a book store. No games. Don't bother with Japan Town if you're looking for old games, I think there's a shop or two that might have recent games, but definitely nothing that old.

You basiclaly won't find any Famicom pirates in SF. At most you'll see shops selling lots of GBA pirates, usually multicarts but not uncommon to see singles too.

Would be cool if Chinatown had pirates. Too bad  :P

Your first sentence was originally MY first sentence, but after re-reading, I thought it sounded too harsh. I'm actually more curious than bemused; I'd love to hear the reason. LOL

Your best bet is to look for game or music stores. I know Chinatown/International District in Seattle has a store with Famicom carts (almost no bootlegs tho, I think they have one multi inside the glass for a stupid price), so it's possible Chinatown in SF does too. But really, it's not like going to China. There's just going to be a lot of buildings with Chinese (and other Asian) writing on them, and lots of specialty stores, Dim Sum restaurants, and etc. Lots of fun, but the closest to bootlegs you'll get would be DVDs of Chinese TV shows.
