Title: Question about Super Famicom
Post by: NintendoKing on January 02, 2011, 01:42:16 pm
Does the Super Famicom have a different controller programming then SNES? I wanted to use SNES controllers on my SuFami but they always act sluggish to button response, I have tried several SNES controllers and all were sluggish, but its not the system as my 2 SuFami controllers work perfectly.

I just wanted to use SNES controllers because they give me a further distance from the console, I guess I will have to buy controller extenders.

The button response is very slow on all 6 of my SNES controllers, maybe certain SuFami's have compatiability issues and others dont?

Like I will click any button on a SNES pad they repond about 2/3 a second after a hit the button instead of instantly which severely cripples gameplay when you need to instantly respond.

When a friend and I took apart a SNES and Super Famicom controller, they were identical inside, even down to the SNES controller board having the buttons distinguished by the Super Famicom colors. We immediately switched the board out of the Super Famicom controller so that we could have a controller cord longer than a meter.

Well, now I am sad. I dont understand why mine doesn't allow me to properly use SNES controllers.

This may be a stupid question, but have you tried Super Famicom controllers?

If the controllers are indeed identical inside, it sounds like the system has a hiccup somewhere along the line from controller port to ... uh... brain?  Yeesh, I am really lacking in gadget knowledge..

That's bizarre.... So it's either psychological or there truly is a difference in the controller construction.

Or.. I suppose those controllers might be busted.

Oh, looking back now, I think I meant to ask you if you had used your SNES controllers on your SNES system. I know it's unlikely all six of them have problems, but maybe you spilled your soda once time and it seeped into all of them at once... Or maybe they've been in your house so long, where the radium in your basement could eat away at the innards and destroy functionality evenly.

Yeah, that's unlikely too.

Could blackdeath be mistaken and there is indeed a difference in the insides?  Maybe they at some point changed the materials or make of the controllers so certain ones are less compatible than other Superfami controllers?

Oh heck, I haven't a clue!
