Anyone here a big fan of beat em' ups? I can pick up and play through Final Fight everyday, definitely in my top 10 games of all time list. The new generation of beat em ups get too crazy with all the 3D, just keep em 2D! I picked up Urban Reign for PS2 for 10 bucks and I heard "Beatdown" for PS2 is pretty rad, anyone else play these or is anyone else a big fan of the genre?
I think beat em ups were in their prime during the 16-bit era. I bought TMNT: Battle Nexus, somewhat of a brawling game for the GameCube, & it sucked. Even worse, the original arcade port (the whole reason for me buying that thing) was altered audio-wise. >:(
I sold it back, ruining my awesome streak of buying kick ass games. I don't remember if I've ever done that with another game before. :-\
Well I haven't gotten my hands on any of the newest beat em' ups but I agree with final fight being one of the top 10 of my list as well. I bought it on ebay not too long ago. I just wish it was 2 players.
Oh man, arcade beat 'em ups are the best. I used to be really good at the X-Men Arcade Game, and TMNT IV for the SNES is just classic.
I remember that X-Men arcade. Wasn't it like 8 players?
I loved tmnt arcade game. Now I just once in a while play it using all the 4 turtles in that mame emulator lol and well sometimes I use kaillera.

You'd be correct. Just a great fun game. :)

This may be a strange one, but Simpsons. :D
If you're talking about that kickass arcade one, then it's not a strange one. :P
Yes, that one. It's funny that there's a Simpsons Beat 'Em Up. :P
The simpsons beat em' up was awesome still have it on my computer. There was an arcade at the mall where I go every weekend but they closed it years ago. I would always go play that game there man wasting quarters never felt better in that game.
If you're into MAME emulation theres a TON. Theres a lot of really weird ones from Japan as well. "Crimefighters" was another favorite. If you download the japanese version though you'll find some stuff they took out of the american version, like animated risque backgrounds and an enemy dressed in leather motorcycle attire that will actually hump your leg if he gets too close to you (not joking)!

HOLY SHIT BUY THE ARCADE MACHINE!!!!!!!
Yeah right. I wished I could've been at the Boomers/Fun Center Putt Putt whatever it was before it was taken down & turned into a massive Lowe's. I would've loved to get a hold of the TMNT: Turtles in Time arcade; I even saw it grouped with a bunch of other arcades that weren't in service.
At the swap meet there was also Marvel Vs. Capcom, & a 19-something shooter game.
NICe stuff
Did I mention that there was a Chuck E Cheese's next to the Boomer's place that was also torn down?
Nolan Bushnell would probably be rolling in his grave - if he were dead. :P
The Boomers here has Japanese IMPORTS! There's a Dragon Ball Z Super Famicom game. I shit you not.
OMG TAKE PICTURES AND BUY THE MACHINE!!!!!!
Im a fan of the street of rage series.I would say double dragon comes in a close second though.

Yeah, I wish...
Last time I went it wasn't working. :(
Discount! :D
Speaking of modern beat-em-ups, did anyone here try God Hand for the PS2? Any game that plays a laugh track when you kick someone in the nards is pure gold, in my book.
Fired up GOD HAND last night and holy shit....what a game! It makes fun of Fist of the North star quite a bit which is awesome but the script is just plain hilarious. You fight these two fruity bodybuilder types (modeled after the Cho Aniki series) and before it starts they ask "what do you think of our outfits?", your character Gene retorts..."Does it look like I give a shit?"...BOOM fight starts...FUCKING SICK! I also kicked this guy straight across a road into a house and the whole porch broke off the house and crashed on him....awesome.
I love Streets of Rage 2.I live near Hampton beach so there is like 6 or 7 arcades within a 10 mile radius of me(more like 5 miles really). Two weekends ago me and my wife went to joes playland and they got a good mix of games from different generations. After playing galaga, which is required, we put like 10 bucks into the simpsons arcade game...yeah we both suck at it but it is awesomely fun.
A long ass time ago, there was this Simpsons arcade at the Whiskey Pete's hotel we stayed at that would give you 48 lives for a couple quarters. :P
We'd put, like, four & the lives would read '99' & stay there.
My favs Beat em' Ups are listed here :
10 - Streets of Rage 2 (Genesis)
9 - Double Dragon (NES/FC)
8 - Battletoads (NES/FC)
7 - Final fight (Arcade)
6 - Cadillacs and Dinosaurs (Arcade)
5 - Batman Returns (SNES)
4 - TMNT (NES/FC)
3 - Captain Commando (Arcade)
2 - Mighty Final Fight (NES/FC)
1 - River city Ransom (Nes/FC)
I've seen another really good ones posted here, but there's my top 10 favs.

Tomorrow I'm heading to gamestop to pick up more 9.99 and down ps2 games so I'll keep an eye on that title. I always find good cheap games in that 9.99 section hehe
supposedly a brand new copy of GOD HAND is getting hard to find. Even if you find a used one I'd recommend you pick it up.
Yeah, we've got one at the EB I work at I've got my eye on.
