Title: PAL Famicom?
Post by: Jollie on February 28, 2011, 04:47:24 pm
I found a Famicom at the flea market and compared it to a normal famicom. the case and everything looked legit. Copyrights, serial number, HVC code, everything. the only difference in there is a 50hz/60hz switch labeled on the back. The guy who owns the place said that the Konami logo was embossed on the Motherboard I guess. Does anyone know what the deal is with this thing?

Hard to tell without pics.

Maybe... Not an HK like I'm familiar with though. It's not the one with the HK label on the front.

I had a Hong Kong Famicom. Post some pics or list the whole model number and we'll know.

If it doesn't have a HK or Asian serial, then it is either a standard FC with an aftermarket PAL kit, or a clone that includes faked model-and-serial numbers. I'd like to see the supposed Konami mark, and some photos of the unit (internal+external) for reference, if possible.  :bomb:

since it's not in my possession, I can't take pics of it. someone bought it sunday after I left. Now, The Case of the famicom itself actually has a label that says 50/60hz on the back. it's part of the label that has channel select, RF, and whatnot. I can understand what your saying if it was a PCB swap but a PCB swap doesn't change the words above the switches. The labeling of the controls on the back is legit too. It's weird.

Does it have three labels like the Hong Kong version instead of four? My Hong Kong version has these labels: "AC Adapter", "Slow <> Normal" and "TV". The right one and the middle one meets somewhere in the middle of where the CH1<>CH2 label is on the Japanese version.

It sounds like that one is the same except for the 50/60Hz label. I've heard of a famiclone that worked similarly as the Hong Kong version before they were stopped by Nintendo.

It could also have a Makko PAL kit board and be re-stickered.

Shame about the photos, as it would've been nice to classify and catalogue it. :bomb:

I have the same famicom! the motherboard has the konami logo, and the switch used for channel selector is the 50/60 switch, the case is just a standard famicom case though.

The dam things been nothing but trouble, been having problems with the av mod that the previous owner did.
