Title: FDS - FDM Power-03 board
Post by: Dr.Wily on March 31, 2011, 12:24:28 pm
I have a FDS drive with Power-03 board. I read the article on the site about copy protection and I notice you have no information on this revision.

I have this FDS since few years now, but during my experiment on this device I have blowed a component. One of the two DAN801 chip. It's near impossible to find one on the net. And I can build one (it's just packaged multiple diodes) but it takes too many space on the board.

If you need this board for some research , can you fix it together ?

I just searched the part and you can find it in a lot of places, for a few $ each.

HERE (http://www.conrad.com/DAN801-DIODE-NETWORK.htm?websale7=conrad-int&pi=161067&ci=SHOP_AREA_17309_6203240) and HERE (http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=m570&_nkw=DAN801&_sacat=See-All-Categories) and HERE (http://www.electronicnetwork.ca/products/discrete-semiconductors/diode-arrays/dan801.html), etc...

Can you post pics of both sides of the FMD-03 board?

I posted photos of it months ago. Please see this thread for details. (http://www.famicomworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=5346.0)

Included are photos of the Rev-03 FDS power board (both sides, in detail, macro), plus the FDS itself, and the case differences (early FDS units have a shiny finish, not unlike the bottom of the Square-Button Famicom (and early round-button FC units) and early NES consoles. The finish changed universally in late-1986 from what I can gather.  Additionally, there are photos of the Rev-04 Famicom[/i] that isn't even mentioned on the info pages here. The Rev-04 Famicom set includes photos of the guts of its controllers (Square-Button, of course), which are very primitive looking, as is its logic board and its video/RF board.

I gave FW permission to use them, but nobody was really interested at the time. I'm slowly building an array of photos and articles for the info site that I'm working on (NintendoFamicom.org), so I'll be including them there, along with a gigantic pile of otherwise unknown items (even in Nippon).

@Eric: If you want to use the photos, you are welcome to do so for your FDS website.  :bomb:

Thank for DAN801 ! I have this FDS since 2003 and at this time there is nowhere to find DAN801. I gave up and never look at them again.

Does anyone know the write mod for the FMD-03 power board?

FMD-PWR-03 has no write-protection.  :bomb:

Ahh, that makes sense. Thanks, Xious! And, thanks for posting the pics, Dr. Wily.  :)

@ Eric: I would double-check to be absolutely sue, but I recall seeing nothing when I examined it. I don't remember if I ever tried to write a disk with that drive though. I think I did, but I will verify it and post the results. Did you look at my photo set from the old thread? I also have the photos there, comparing shiny and textured FDS drives, and comparing shiny & textured RAM-Adapters, plus some photos of the guts of the Rev-03 RAM-Adapter. I have photos of the Rev-04 RAM-Adapter to add as well, eventually, plus some photos of internal FDS mechanism differences.

@ Dr.Wily: Is your FDS the shiny or textured plastic type? What is the serial number? Does it have a warning (in white) by the LED on the front bezel, or is it blank (black)?

I'm trying to keep an accurate list of serials vs. other features, including internal parts and case differences, and any additional datum is appreciated.  :bomb:

Bottom (http://wellby.dyndns.org/dnl/img/fdm03_sticker.jpg) is textured, The rest of the case is shiny (http://wellby.dyndns.org/dnl/img/fdm03_shiny.jpg).

Humm, I don't know if that means warning in japanese but here is The front (http://wellby.dyndns.org/dnl/img/fdm03_front.jpg) of the FDS.

Plus drive mecha here (http://wellby.dyndns.org/dnl/img/fdm03_drive1.jpg) and there (http://wellby.dyndns.org/dnl/img/fdm03_drive2.jpg). More detailed pics on demand  ;)
