What are your thoughts on it? Given that its codename is "cafe", I'm assuming its going to be marketed towards an older demographic. I just hate all of these news sources calling it the "next wii console" or "wii 1.5" or "Wii HD". Most likely, it's not going to be a wii.
I'll wait until they actually announce something before I form an opinion.

This.
@petik1: Also young people visit cafes. ;)
It's the next gamecube for sure. They just released the next virtual boy and the wii is still too new.
Also, whatever it is it will probably still have weaker hardware than the xbox and ps3 :)
^I strongly disagree with you. There is no doubt in my mind that Nintendo's new console will be in HD. And if not, it'll at least have component input. I'm sure Nintendo's new console will be great, but like UglyJoe, I'm going to wait until there's more official news about it.
Nintendo is rushing something else out? Sheesh! Stick with what people like... Famicom/NES, Super Nitnendo/Super Famicom, Gamecube, and the Game Boy... :upsetroll:
You need to minus Gamecube from that, and replace it with N64. Nintendo needs to make another N64 but call it Nintendo Revolution with modern graphic capabilities.
Yeah, give the Nintendo 64 more than 4k or texture capability and with better drawing distance; maybe add an extra chip in the carts and bring the DD to America?

Well, I think Sony is still taking a loss on their hardware, and I know damn well Nintendo isn't going to sell their HW at a loss (or anywhere even remotely close), so it's either going to be weaker (hw capability-wise, which is not to say it's a worse system) or it's going to cost a fortune.

It's been six years since XBOX 360 and PS3 came out. The hardware has gotten cheaper to manufacture. Nintendo should at least have 360 comparable graphics to compete. There have been hints that MS and Sony won't release a new console until 2013, 2014, thanks to Kinect and Move. I just want a capable, fun game system.
That also sound unrealistic to me. I mean 6 inches is pretty huge. Even the NGP will "only" have a 5 inch screen.

I think she is just saying that to make you feel better... ::)
Now that I think of it, yeah, that's unreal. My phone has a 4.3" screen, and that's too big to fit on a controller.
Nintendo already sent out dev kits to developers,so yes this is for real.
Promise you guys this is for real, I first heard about it last year. E3 reveal.
I reckon they should have debugs now if not pretty soon. I haven't seen anything, but I know Japan had something middle of last year. You'll see debug images soon.
Nintendo is guaranteed to make something completely ridiculous and over priced, I am afraid to see this nightmare of a console. Wii was and still is a terrible console, it only sold so many units because it's cheap. I know a old man down the street that bought one just for netflixs and nothing else.
The last 2 generations of Nintendo consoles only survived because they were super inexpensive to purchase.
Heck, I owned a XBOX for gaming in the last gen, and a Gamecube to play my gameboy games on the tv. That was the only reason to own a Gamecube. Just like the only reason to own a Wii is for Netflix.

Or, ya know, virtual console and excellent first party games :upsetroll:
Nah, you need to own a PS3 or XBOX 360 if you want those features. I admit a few Wii games are decent but it doesnt justify calling it a game console.
Wii virtual console is amazing! I mean the one done properly through the homebrew channel :)
I agree everything is hideously overpriced. The ones worth getting end up charged more as premium 'Japanese festival' games which is really annoying.
Nintendo's new console was just confirmed by the way, for those that are interested. No images yet - those shown so far are fakes.
As much as I love Nintendo, the homebrew emulators provide so many more options over an above what the official virtual console does.
I'm happy to pay reasonable prices so I have picked up a few N64 and PC Engine games, the odd SMS game etc, but being forced to play PAL Sonic, waiting for lengthy release schedules for all 5 versions of Street Fighter etc is absurd. Nintendo treat Virtual Console like they do traditional release schedules when what they SHOULD have done is flood the thing with perfect ports from the get-go.
Here is a pic of the dev kit,can anyone confirm this.
That looks on par with what I've seen. Don't get to carried away with its design, remember that its a dev kit, everyone.
Your link broke, Pikkon.

Maybe it's just me. I tried directly going to that link though and I get a 404.
Edit: Wait a minute, my SercureIT virus protection is blocking the website. This is the only virus protection I've ever used that's actually completely prevented me from going to a website without giving me a choice. This sucks.
I threw the pic on my photobucket so you should be able to see it now.
Pikkon those are fakes buddy.
Ahh,thanks.Thats why I said can someone confirm this.
Well, unless there are multiple models of the same kit... :S
You'd think if someone was going to mock up a fake, they wouldn't just make it look like an internet café router, right? :D
I've given it a personal name "Nintendo BluHD" (with a Blu-ray Player and in HD).
Not too certain it'll be way-way better than PS3 or Xbox 360, but will definitely have better hardware this time, I suppose by what has been said.
The original Super Mario Brothers NES remastered in 1080p would be beautiful, because you could see every detail clearly and in High Definition.
Nintendo probably won't remaster SMB NES, so it's just a dream.
N this time will either use Blu-ray Disc for their games or all in digital format.
Wii games on DVD were a waste because without the junk most of them have, if not all, could easily fit onto a CD.
What are you on?
There are hardly any Wii games under a gigabyte, much less 650-900 megabytes.
Although it would be kind of cool, there aren't very many "details" in SMB that really need to be displayed in 1080p.
What makes you think they'll use Blu-ray? If Nintendo is supposedly so far behind in this generation, how can you be sure about anything for the next?
Blu-Ray was already rumoured, but to me taht's odd because it requires a licensing deal with Sony and a royalty on every game sold.
It's probably another GC-esque Blu-Ray type disc, heck we'll know in a few weeks.
Is anyone here going to E3? Send me a PM if you are please! Squee!
p.s. hi-def SMB would be awesome (Infinity Blade style), but sadly that's not SMB, that's Zelda's playing field.

They keep calling that a controller. This can't be all.
EDIT: I was right
Fact sheet: http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/htwfy/new_nintendo_console_wii_u_fact_sheet/ (http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/htwfy/new_nintendo_console_wii_u_fact_sheet/)
I was going to kill myself if it were just a controller for the Wii. Good thing that its' an actual console. Although, Nintendo really did a shitty job explaining what was going on.
So let me translate for the people who has not seen threw their Nipponese Evil Plan.
A. They are going to release the same system with new features, and pretend their original system was not enough.
B. The controller was originally going to be apart of the NDS player that should also play original gameboy games, but instead it is only going to play GBA games. Since any idiot can make a NDS emulator and craft an pre-exsisting screen controller.
C. People are going make sex :cherry: games, like that tickle game for the NDS, and you can guess the rest. I mean like oh wow, did I just use my lower middle :octorok: middle finger :help: says toadstool as you slide your throbing index on her plastic :coin:.
D. Then the westerners children, and current Nintenzombies will spend more time using their :octorok: against toadstools plastic :coin: making her :cherry:
boil over. This will continue, as the population decreases more Asians will immigrant, into the USA and finally the true nature will occur

EAT THE WHALE MEAT!!!!!!!!
You all thought I was going to use.....the other phrase.
How cold you has not seen threw there Evil Plan.....I mean like wow how obveeus.
I am so confused.
Why are you confused.
It all seems OK and easy to understand to me... :star:
I'll probably not get the WiiU at launch. Maybe after a few years...
From the demo videos, it kinda looks like Pacman VS: The Console. Which is totally awesome in my book.
I swear regalsin's rants are translated through 12 different languages before he posts them.
This system is a joke, it's like copying a Dreamcast controller and fusing it with a NDS then slightly enhancing the Wii's graphics... It's basically the same as Wii just rounded a bit. Very nice Nintendo... :/
Nintendo's steam = out
I'm calling it now.

I completely disagree.
1. That is definitely not a Dreamcast controller. More like an iPad with buttons. According to reports, it comfortable to hold and lighter than you'd think.
2. Did you see the Wii U's tech demo?
3. Well in that respect, we could say the same about the XBOX and XBOX 360.
:mario: http://www.olganon.org/ :gamer:
I'm actually very disappointed, the name for starters makes no sense for a console, the game footage they used at E3 was from 360/PS3 and the huge controller is just a cashcow for Nintendo.
I've lost hope that Nintendo would ever go back to the 90's quality.
Wii U is the best name you could come up with, Nintendo?! -.-"
Huh, I guess I'm the only one who's optimistic. I just say, wait and see. Nintendo has never failed to surprise when it comes to home consoles.
Virtual Boy not included.

Me too. I don't necessarily like what I'm seeing right now, but Nintendo has usually always pulled through for me. I even liked the Virtual Boy.

It could be a prototype name. Remember the Wii was called Revolution in 2005. And if we go back in 1984, the NES was named Advanced Video System.
But yeah the idea looks good. The only downside will be the battery of the controller.
I think the WiiU looks awesome, and I'll probably buy one on launch day.
Apart from what I've disliked about Wii 2, it certainly looks fantastic the console's hardware and software.
I wonder how the regular controller will be, something between NGC's (analogue stick up left and the 2nd analogue stick down right) and Wii's would be great.
Still, I don't see myself buying it, since I own PS3/X360 and haven't yet bought most of my favourite titles.
Wii 2 with a Blu-ray Player but it'll only legally play games? Who knows. If it's like the Wii, it legitimately only played games but when hacked it could be used as a DVD Player.
Wii 2 looks like a win-win for now (the name "WiiU" is a fail).
Personally not impressed. Was hoping to be pleasantly surprised. Instead I feel like this could be the nail in the coffin as far as my love for Nintendo goes.
They're a completely different company than they were 15 years ago..
I really wanted to see this announcement - I'm a huge Nintendo fan - but I don't think I'll be buying this. I'm getting an iPad 2 instead in Famicom colours.

With Famicom's skin colour it must look awesome, do you have an exact picture of it?
Nothing certain came up when I googled for "iPad 2 Famicom".
Sorry, it's just a bit of a joke - white ipad 2 with red cover and a Nintendo logo or two ;)
I do not think I'm going to jump on this. I was hoping for something else not an updated wii with a mini screen. I'll wait and see what games are coming out before running to the register to buy a wiiu.

The MK-I Atari Lynx, with all of its awesome wideness could accommodate a six-inch diagonal LCD. Additionally, there are very low-power-consumption LCD modules out there.
It's still an overcomplicated heap built for 3-D-immersion obsessed American gamers that need fifteen control buttons and a spinner to execute a jump.
I would also expect your Wii-net to go south once this launches... :bomb:

Other the limited space on the carts, I don't really see what was wrong with the N64. It's a thousand times better than the Wii (and likely the Wii U) to say the least.

I've tried to make myself comfortable playing with this (PoS controller) but it just doesn't suit me or how the hell to hold it properly.
The "best" controller I've seen for N64 is this one:
It's still crap.
Other than the awkward controller, N64 was a pretty good console.
They were only trying to stand out. I mean, how could you pass by a three-handled controller and not start to wonder about what it does? :P Most of the games I play on the N64 don't use the D-pad, so I generally hold it as if only the middle and right handles were there. No big deal. I also have a HORI controller that's shaped like a Gamecube controller (and has added a second Z button so they're symmetrical) which also works quite well.
Not my picture. Mine's green, but you get the idea.
What people don't realize is that you would never use all of the buttons on the n64 controller. you either held the left and right handle, the center and right, or the left and center.
